BRIGHTON, Mass. – A pair of strong pitching performances from Jack Seppings and Ryan Oshinskie helped lift the Brown baseball team to a game one win and a doubleheader split against Harvard on Saturday. The games were played at Boston College's Harington Athletics Village.
Shortstop DJ Dillehay went 3-for-8 with three runs scored in the two games, outfielder Nathan Brasher was 4-for-8 with a run and RBI, and outfielder Brady Dever had two RBIs and a run scored in game one.
GAME ONE
Brown put three runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning as Dever lined a double down the right field line to plate one run. Three batters later, Brasher singled in a run, and Andrew Hanlon followed with a sac fly to spot Brown the 3-0 lead.
Harvard got two runs back following a leadoff double and two-run homer in the sixth. Dever tacked on an insurance run in the eighth with a sac fly, scoring Mika Petersen who had reached on a leadoff single.
Seppings delivered 6.0 strong innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven. Oshinskie fired 3.0 hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts to close out the game, locking down the Crimson offense to earn his first career save.
GAME TWO
Harvard struck first in game two with a pair of runs in the second inning with another two-run homer. Brown answered right back in the third inning with a two-out infield single by Mark Henshon.
Harvard pushed the lead to 4-1 with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Brown got one run back in the top of the sixth with some two-out magic as Dillehay tripled to center field and came home on a pinch hot RBI single by Quinn Rooks. Harvard scored three times in the bottom of the inning on three hits to take a 7-2 lead.
The Bears rallied with three runs in the eighth inning. Brown out the first four runners aboard in the eighth via two singles and two walks, including a bases loaded free pass from Logan Meusy. Gunner Boree and Reece Rappoli each followed with back-to-back sac flys to pull Bruno with 7-5. The Bears brought the tying run to the plate with a one-out walk in the ninth but couldn't advance the runner.
Brown and Harvard will play the rubber game of their three-game series on Sunday at Harvard's O'Donnell Field. First pitch is set for noon on ESPN+.
