Offensive Outburst in Game Two Lifts Baseball to Doubleheader Split at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – The Brown baseball team put up 13 runs on 16 hits in a 13-3 game two victory on Saturday to power the Bears to a doubleheader split at Dartmouth. The Big Green (7-17, 4-7 Ivy) took game one over the Bears (14-13, 7-3 Ivy) by a score of 4-0.

Senior Mika Petersen had five hits between the two games, including four in the nightcap, senior DJ Dillehay had three hits and three RBIs in game two, and sophomore Jack Edmunds had three hits, three RBIs and four runs scored in game two. Freshman Matt Luigs also had three hits, two runs and two RBIs in game two.

On the mound, freshman Drew Nelson tossed 7.0 innings in game two, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. It marks the fourth straight start he has gone at least seven innings.

GAME 1
The Big Green used three home runs to plate all their runs in the opener. A solo shot in the second inning made it 1-0, a two-run shot in the third pushed it to 3-0, and another solo homer in the eighth brought it to the 4-0 final.

Brown's best threats came in the first and fifth innings when the Bears loaded the bases with one out before Dartmouth was able to escape the inning both times. Dartmouth outhit Brown 9-6, with five of Brown's hits being singles.

GAME 2
All nine members of the Brown starting nine reached base, eight of the starters scored at least one run, and seven had hits.

Brown jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning on a three-run blast to left field by Edmunds.

After Dartmouth strung together three hits for a run in the bottom of the second, Brown came right back with a run in the third when Petersen doubled, and Dillehay followed an RBI double of his own to make it 4-1.

The Bears added single run in the fifth and sixth coming on a sac fly by Alex Benevento in the fifth, and an RBI double to center field by Edmunds in the sixth.

Benevento kept the Big Green off the scoreboard with a sensation diving catch in deep right field to end the seventh.

Seven runs across the final two innings helped Bruno blow the game open. Five runs on four hits in the eighth made it an 11-2 game with the big highlights coming on a two-run triple by Luigs, a single by Petersen, and RBI doubles from Dillehay and Christian Burera.

Dillehay added another RBI with a single in the ninth to further pad the lead before Dartmouth scored once in the bottom of the ninth.

The Bears and Big Gren will wrap up their three-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon at noon on ESPN+.
