PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team picked up its ninth win in the last 11 games with a 9-1 win over Holy Cross on Tuesday at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium. The win is the Bears third in a row overall.

Sophomore Bryan Yang tossed a career-high 6.0 shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk with four strikeouts, facing just three batters over the minimum. Freshman Camren Piwnicki tossed a scoreless eighth inning, and senior Christian Keel struck out all four batters he faced in the ninth.

Strikeout for Yang ends the sixth inning! His fourth strikeout of the game and he's faced just three over the minimum thru a career-high 6.0 innings

At the plate, senior Mika Petersen went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Freshman Matt Luigs and sophomore Alex Benevento had two RBIs apiece. Brown outhit Holy Cross 8-6 and saw eight of its nine batters reach base.

Brown put two on the board in the bottom of the first for the early 2-0 lead. Petersen extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a hit up the middle and later scored on an RBI groundout by Mark Henshon. Benevento, who reached via a walk, later came across on a wild pitch.

In the fifth inning, Petersen reached on a fielder's choice and Benevento doubled to put men on second and third with two outs. Both runners then raced home on a fielding error by the shortstop to double the lead to 4-0.

The Crusaders put a run on the board on two hits in the seventh, but Brown came right back in the bottom of the frame as Petersen led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly by Benevento.

Mika triples and Benny knocks him in with a sac fly to get the run right back.

Brown blew the game wide open by batting around and scoring four times in the eighth. Luigs drove a two-run single to left field, Petersen followed with an RBI double to left center, and Benevento delivered another sac fly to make it 9-1.

Luigs gets the base hit to drive in two more and give the Bears some breathing room!

The Bears will return to action with a key Ivy League series at home this weekend against Columbia. First pitch of game one of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 11:30 a.m. on ESPN+. Saturday will serve as Little League Day.
