
Baseball Powers Past Harvard for 20-12 Win in Sunday’s Series Finale

Junior second baseman Gunner Boree reached base all seven times he went to the plate, going 4-for-4 with three walks, three runs scored and three RBIs. Senior Reece Rappoli went 4-for-6 with a walk, four RBIs and three runs scored, and freshman catcher Andrew Hanlon went 2-for-3 with four walks, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Junior Jacob Young tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to close out the game and earn his second save of the year, striking out six batters including striking out the side in the ninth.
The teams combined for 15 runs in the third inning. The Bears' 20 runs were a season-high while their 18 hits tied a season-high.
Brown jumped on the board quickly in the first, loading the bases and pushing a run across on a big two-out single by Rappoli. The Bears got two more in the third on a two-out, two-run double down the left field line by Boree.
After stranding six runners through the first two innings, Brown broke the game wide open with a huge nine-run third inning, sending 16 men to the plate and putting the first eight hitters on base. Mika Petersen and Mark Henshon drove in two runs each with hits, DJ Dillehay drove in a run in with a long fly ball triple to right-center, and Boree singled in a run with a perfectly executed safety squeeze and beat the throw to first. Rappoli added an RBI single, Charles Crawford drew a bases loaded walk and Petersen drive in his third run of the inning with a single to make it a 12-0 ballgame.
The Crimson got themselves right back in the game with a six-run bottom of the third inning to pull within 12-6. They got two more in the fifth and four off the bullpen in the seventh to pull within 13-12.
Brown scored seven runs over the final two innings to help put the game away, starting with two runs in the eighth on a big two-out, two run double by Nathan Brasher.
The Bears batted around for the second time and scored four runs in the top of the ninth coming on a two-run double by Rappoli and a two-run single by Hanlon to make it 20-12.
Brown is scheduled to host Bryant at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
