Softball Travels to Penn For Weekend Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball makes its first Ivy League road trip of the season as the Bears will head down to Philadelphia for a three-game set against Penn this weekend.
The weekend begins on Saturday (March 29) with a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. The series closes with a single game on Sunday (March 30) at 12:30 p.m. All three games of the series will be streamed on ESPN+.

FIRST PITCH
Last week Brown went 2-3 with a midweek sweep over Stonehill before going 0-3 against Dartmouth to begin Ivy League play.
Jasmine Hsiao had the best weekend of a Bear at the plate, hitting .3-0 with four hits and a double. Laurel Moody finished the weekend hitting .294 with five hits, including two home runs.
Abby Bettencourt hit her first-career home run and led Brown with four RBI in the five games.
In the circle, both Macy Borowski and Alexis Guevara each picked up a win. Guevara finished the weekend with 15 strikeouts in 16.0 innings and Borowski had 10 strikeouts in 12.0 innings.
On the season, Moody continues to lead Brown, hitting .387 on the year. Moody is also third in the Ivy League with six home runs, on base percentage (.500), total bases (46) and is fourth in the slugging percentage (.742).
Guevara remains one of the top pitchers in the Ivy League boasting a league-best ERA (1.85) and 72 strikeouts. Guevara is also fourth in the league in opposing batting average at .228.
SCOUTING PENN
Penn broke a 20-game losing streak with a 16-7 win against Drexel on Wednesday (March 26). The Quakers sit at 2-20 on the season and 0-6 in Ivy League play, having been swept by both Yale and Brown to start the season. Penn has been outscored 164-60 through 22 games this season.
Gigi Ganje leads Penn with a .364 batting average and 24 hits. Jade Montgomery has a team-high four home runs. Rachel Riley is the top run producer for the Quakers with 14 driven in.
Penn's pitching staff has a combined 7.64 ERA with Morgan Sullivan posting the lowest ERA on the squad at 5.94 through 17.2 innings pitched. Ainsley Pemberton (7.82 ERA) has earned both wins for Penn and has a team-high 21 strikeouts through 34.0 innings. Pemberton does have 23 walks on the year.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Brown holds a 48-37 advantage in the series against Penn but the Bears have struggled recently against the Quakers. The Bears have yet to win a three-game series against Penn since the league moved to three-game series in the 2018 season. The Bears have going 1-2 in each of the last three seasons against Penn.
Last season, Brown won the opening game of the series 10-2 in five innings but lost 6-3 in eight innings in game two and 3-1 in the final game of the series.
