Women's Hockey Downs Harvard with Two Late Goals
2/7/2025 8:40:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey (13-10-3, 8-8-3 ECAC) picked up a much-needed win in the race for home ice in the ECAC Tournament, taking down Harvard (2-21-2, 1-17-1 ECAC), 3-1 on Friday night. Victoria Damiani netted her first-career goal in the win.
The win keeps the Bears in the No. 8 seed for the ECAC Tournament, which would mean Brown would host a first-round game.
Brown dominated the puck, outshooting the Crimson 47-14 but had to use a late rally to earn the victory.
Victoria Damiani got the scoring going for Brown late in the second period. After Harvard turned the puck over in their own zone, Monique Lyons found Damiani at the point and Damiani's wrister beat Ainsley Tuffy to put the Bears ahead.
Brown maintained the lead and had a chance to extend it after being called for a penalty with just under 10 minutes left on the clock. After killing most of the penalty, the Bears got a breakaway from Margot Norehad but her shot went off the post. Brown had another chance as India McDadi broke free right as the penalty ended but her shot was saved.
Less than two minutes later, Brown was called for another penalty and this time the Crimson capitalized, getting the puck past Rory Edwards to tie the game with less than five minutes remaining.
With two minutes on the clock, Brown got the puck into Harvard's zone and Ava DeCoste passed the puck back to Olivia Fantino at the point. Fantino sent the puck to the net and the puck caromed off a Harvard defender and past the goalie to put Brown up 2-1.
The Crimson pulled their goalie and had a few chances that Edwards stopped. The Bears put the game away as Norehad blocked a shot up top and McDadi retrieved the puck. McDadi passed to Norehad who found the back of the net for the empty netter to close out the game.
GAME NOTES
Brown will close out its regular season home schedule with a contest against Dartmouth on Saturday (Feb. 8). Puck drop is at 3 p.m. and after the game Brown will honor its five-member class of 2025.
