PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rory Edwards was stellar throughout the game and finished with a 33-save shutout and India McDadi tallied the lone goal on the power play in the third period as the Brown Bears (3-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC) handed the seventh-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats (9-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC) its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.
Brown jumped out of the gates with several chances in the opening minutes, but were unable to beat Quinnipiac goaltender Felicia Frank (31 saves). The Bears finished the frame with 13 shots on goal.
Edwards was strong in the opening period and turned aside all 10 Bobcat shots faced, including a great chance from Bryn Prier in the final minute.
The Bears continued the pressure in the middle frame and finished the period with 13 shots on goal, but were unable to beat Franks. Brown's best chances came on a power play halfway through the period.
McDadi nearly broke the deadlock in the opening minute of the third period, but her shot from the slot rang off the crossbar. Five minutes later, Quinnipiac's Kahlen Lamarche hit the post with a wrist shot on a breakaway.
McDadi broke through on the power play 8:49 into the third period with a quick shot to beat Frank. The senior moved the puck to Margot Norehad on a give-and-go down the boards and caught the return pass for her first goal of the campaign.
The Bobcats pulled Frank for the extra attacker and Prier found the back of the net with 1:17 remaining in the third. However, Brown challenged the play for a hand pass prior to the goal and the call on the ice was overturned.
Brown held off the Bobcat push in the final seconds to secure the shutout victory.
