Sophomore outfielder Mika Petersen went 4-for-9 with a pair of RBIs in the two games, including three hits in game one. Nathan Brasher was 3-for-7 with two walks on the day to extend his on-base streak to 17 games. Senior Quinn Rooks had two hits in game one including his first career homer. Junior Jacob Young fired 2.0 scoreless innings of relief in game two.
GAME ONE
Columbia struck early in game one with four runs over the first two innings, starting the game with a walk, double and RBI ground ball in the first inning, followed by a pair of walks and a three-run homer in the second inning.
The Lions added four more runs, all unearned following a two-out error in the third to push the lead to 8-0, with the big blow coming on a three-run homer by Skye Selinsky, his second home run in as many at bats.
Brown got two runs back in the third as Conor Cooke led off with a walk and Mark Henson followed with a single. Petersen beat out a bunt single to third and Cooke raced home after a throwing error on the play to get the Bears on the board. Brasher then plated Henshon with a ground ball to make it 8-2.
After Columbia plated another run in the top of the fifth, the Bears sent 10 men to the plate and scored four times in the bottom of the inning. Henshon led off with a walk before Petersen, Brasher and DJ Dillehay tagged three consecutive RBI doubles. Cooke later added a bases loaded walk to force in a run and cut the deficit to 9-6.
The rally was short lived though as Columbia got all four runs back and then some in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with two outs for Cole Hage who delivered a three-run triple to center field, followed by a single and wild pitch to score two more runs and grow the lead to 14-6.
Columbia tacked on five more in the seventh, four of which came on a grand slam.
Rooks' home run helped Brown get a run back in the bottom of the seventh with his solo shot to left field.
GAME TWO
Columbia grabbed a first inning run once again as Hage jumped on the third pitch of the game and sent it out over the center field wall for a leadoff solo homer.
Columbia put men at the corners with two out in the fourth, but the rally was extinguished as Cooke, Gunner Boree and Henshon teamed up to catch the would-be base stealer to end the inning before the runner on third was able to cross the plate.
The Lions broke the game open with five runs on six hits in the fifth inning, including a pair of solo homers to center field to take a 6-0 lead.
Brown got on the board in the eighth inning as Charles Crawford led off with a single up the middle, then scored on a two-out single by Petersen.
Brown will take the field next on Saturday, April 27 with a doubleheader at Yale to open a three-game weekend series with the Bulldogs. First pitch of game one is set for 11:30 a.m. from West Haven, Conn.
