4/27/2024 7:20:00 PM | Baseball
Charles Crawford had two hits and three RBIs in game one, Reece Rappoli had three hits and scored twice and Nathan Brasher had three hits between the two games to extend his on-base streak to 19 games. Jacob Young tossed a career-high 3.2 innings of relief in game one before Carter Rasmussen got the final out for the save.
Both starters in game two went the distance, with Paxton Meyers needing just 85 pitches in his 8.0 inning effort, allowing four earned runs with three strikeouts. It was the first complete game for a Brown pitcher in a non-seven inning game in exactly five years, when Garett Delano tossed 8.0 innings in a loss to Princeton on April 27, 2019.
GAME ONE
All nine of Brown's starters reached base in game one with eight picking up base hits. Both teams combined to strand 21 runners on base in the opener. Five of Yale's eight hits came from the bottom third of their order.
Yale jumped in front in the first inning, taking advantage of a leadoff walk and taking the 1-0 lead on a safety squeeze.
The Bears promptly responded with a big five-run second inning, sending 10 men to the plate and pounding out five hits. Quinn Rooks got things stated with an RBI single, Crawford laid down a safety squeeze to plate a run, Mark Henshon drove in a run with a ground rule double, and Brasher drove in two more with a two-run single.
Yale got one run back in the bottom of the second, but the Bears responded with single runs in the third and fourth, the first coming on a double by Crawford with two outs, then DJ Dillehay added another two-out RBI in the fourth with an RBI single of his own to plate Henshon and give Brown a 7-2 lead.
With Brown up 7-5 entering the seventh, the Bears picked up two big runs to go back up by four as Gunner Boree drew a walk leading off, stole second, and scored on a two-out error. Crawford followed with his second hit and third RBI of the game with a single to right field.

Yale got both runs back on three hits in the bottom of the seventh, but Brown once again countered with two runs in the top of the eighth with some two-out magic as Rappoli lined a single up the middle to score Brasher, and later score again as Boree came in on a wild pitch to go up 11-7.
Another big hit to answer the Yale rally! Rappoli plates Brasher with this shot up the middle - his 3rd hit of the game - to get the lead back to 3 in the 8th!

After two quick outs to begin the ninth, Yale scored twice and brought the winning run to the plate, but Rasmussen, who came on in relief in the middle of the inning and got a flyout to left field to lock down the win and end the Bears' eight-game skid.
GAME TWO
The Bulldogs stormed out of the gate in the nightcap with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. They tacked on a run in the third on a pair of walks and safety squeeze before adding another in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. The final two runs came in the sixth inning on a wild pitch, and a solo homer.
The Bears stranded seven runners on base in the game, while Yale stranded two. The Bears advanced runners to third base only twice in the second and fifth innings.
Brown will go for the series win in the finale on Sunday at noon.
