Women’s Lacrosse Runs Past Vermont 20-6 to Stay Unbeaten

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team moved to 4-0 for the first time since 2014 with a dominating 20-6 victory on Saturday afternoon over Vermont at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Brown took control of the match with a 16-1 run that spanned from the middle of the second quarter until the final minute of regulation, including a stretch of 13 unanswered.
Senior Greta Criqui finished with eight points on seven goals and one assist. Senior Carly Camphausen picked up four goals, and senior Leah Caputo added two goals and an assist. Senior Annie Burton added a goal and finished with eight assists, coming just one assist shy of tying the program record which has stood since 1985.
Brown finished the game with 13 assists and a 24-5 advantage on draw controls. The Bears also held a 16-10 edge on ground balls.
The Bears are now outscoring their opponents 80-17 through the first four games.
Brown jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by the 9:13 mark of the opening quarter, with the first two goals coming from Camphausen, one on a free position attempt and the other unassisted.
Caputo made it 3-0 with a highlight reel goal just under six minutes in, taking a centering pass from Burton, spinning and shooting it back over her right shoulder with her back to the net.
After a pair of goals pulled Vermont within one, Beth Anderson got the Bears' lead back to two with her eighth goal of the season at the 3:28 mark.
After the Catamounts tied the game at four, Brown exploded for a 9-1 run to close the half and hold at 13-5 lead at halftime. Camphausen broke a 4-4 tie with her third goal of the game with 9:33 left until halftime to put Brown back in front, then capped a 3-0 run with her fourth of the game to make it 7-4 just over two minutes later. Criqui scored three goals during the run and Anderson picked up two as the Bears scored six unanswered to close out the half.
The Bears kept the momentum rolling through the third quarter, outscoring UVM 6-0 in the period to create a running clock and hold a 19-5 lead through three quarters. Criqui scored four of the Bears' goals, while Burton added three more assists.
Goldie Aronson picked up her first career goal early in the fourth quarter to make it 20-4. The Catamounts broke the streak on a goal with 30 seconds left in the match.
Brown will return to action on Friday, March 7 with its Ivy League opener at Cornell. Start time is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
