Men's Hockey Opens 2024-25 Season at Colgate, #6 Cornell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (0-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) kick off the 2024-25 campaign with a road trip to take on the Colgate Raiders (3-4-1, 0-0-0 ECAC) on Friday before closing the weekend against the Cornell Big Red (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) on Saturday.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown opens the 2024-25 season against Colgate for the first time since 2005 on Friday in Hamilton.
- The Brown offense returns most of its scoring offense from a season ago. Sophomore Max Scott returns after collecting 18 points in 22 games as a freshman and senior Ryan St. Louis is back after a 24-point campaign in 2023-24. Overall, Brown returns six of its top seven scorers from last season.
- Defensively, Brown returns sophomore goaltender Lawton Zacher, who posted a .909 save percentage and 2.91 goals against average in 26 starts last season. Tyler Shea also returns after a .901 save percentage and 3.27 goals against average in 10 games.
- Among defensemen, seven returners who accounted for 90% of games played last season return, including seniors Tony Andreozzi and Brett Bliss and sophomores Ethan Mistry and Alex Pineau. The foursome did not miss a game in 2023-24.
- Colgate enters the weekend with a 3-4-1 overall record after opening the season with eight non-conference games.
- The Raiders swept RIT and picked up an overtime win and tie against Sacred Heart and were swept by UConn and UMass Lowell in weekend series.
- Colgate's offense averages 3.1 goals per game and is led by Brett Chorske (4-4-8). Two Raiders, Tommy Bergsland and Simon Labelle, lead the team with six assists apiece.
- 16 Raiders have multiple points through eight games.
- Colgate's power play has struggled through the early part of the season with two goals in 28 attempts (7.1%).
- Defensively, Colgate allows 4.0 goals per game.
- Between the pipes, Andrew Takacs and Nick Haas have both started four games. Takacs holds a 3.73 goals against average and .877 save percentage while Haas holds a 3.77 goals against average and .876 save percentage.
- Colgate's penalty kill clicks at 61.9% (13-21) through eight games.
- Brown and Colgate meet for the 102nd time in program history Friday night in Hamilton.
- Colgate owns the series edge, 63-28-10, with a 39-8-3 home record.
- The Bears are 3-5-2 in the last 10 meetings and split the season series in 2023-24.
- Last season, Brown and Colgate squared off for the 100th time in series history, marking the 10th opponent the Bears have reached the century mark against.
- Cornell enters the weekend with a 2-0-0 overall record after opening the 2024-25 season with a sweep over North Dakota.
- The Big Red took a 4-1 win over NoDak in the opening game before closing the weekend with a 5-3 victory.
- Nine different skaters found the back of the net in the opening weekend. Ryan Walsh leads the Big Red with a goals and two assists through two games.
- Cornell's power play went scoreless in the opening weekend, finishing 0-for-7.
- Ian Shane, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, picked up both wins last weekend and holds a 2.00 goals against average and .923 save percentage.
- Cornell's penalty kill opened the season a perfect 7-for-7 against North Dakota.
- Saturday night marks the 140th meeting between the Bears and Big Red dating back to 1959.
- Cornell holds an 87-44-8 series record and a 47-15-4 record at Lynah Rink.
- Senior Tony Andreozzi and sophomore Max Scott will captain the Bears in 2024-25. They mark the 114th and 115th captains in program history.
- Scott is the first sophomore to ever captain the Bears.
- Senior defenseman Brett Bliss and sophomore defenseman Alex Pineau will serve as the assistant captains in 2024-25.
- The Bruno roster features 18 forwards with 13 returners and five newcomers.
- Leading scorers from 2023-24 - Ryan St. Louis and Max Scott - return for the Bears.
- The Bears return over 85% of its goal scoring from 2023-24 and nearly 80% of Brown's point production returns from a year ago.
- Brown's 10 defensemen are split between seven returners and three newcomers.

- Lawton Zacher returns for his sophomore season after starting 26 games in 2023-24.
