SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Tyler Shea made 50 saves, but the Brown men's ice hockey team (5-24-2) was defeated by No. 20 Union (22-10-3), 9-0, on Saturday evening at the M&T Bank Center. With the win, the fifth-seeded Garnet Chargers will advance in the ECAC playoffs to take on No. 4 Princeton.
Â
Shea's 50 saves are the 31st time a Bears goalkeeper collected 50 or more saves and the most since Dan Rosen's 50 saves in a 1-1 tie at Harvard on Jan. 9, 2009.
Â
Union controlled the pace early, but Shea kept the Bears within striking distance in the first period, yielding just one goal to Lucas Buzziol at the 8:19 mark. Shea turned aside 22 shots in the opening frame alone.
Â
The Garnet Chargers extended their lead in the second period, striking three times, sending Union into the second intermission with a 4-0 advantage.
Â
Union's offense netted five goals in the final 20 minutes to win the ECAC opening round contest, 9-0.
Â
The Garnet Chargers outshot Brown 59-22 overall and capitalized on special teams, converting 4 of 7 power-play opportunities while holding the Bears scoreless on their two chances. Cameron Korpi turned away 22 shots.
Â
Ivan Zadvernyuk led the Bears at the faceoff dot, winning 13 of his 19 draws.
Â
The Bears conclude the 2025-26 season 5-24-2 overall.
