Men's Hockey Hosts #17 Harvard Friday; Dartmouth on Saturday in ECAC Conference Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (1-7-0, 1-5-0 ECAC) return to ECAC conference play as they host the 17th-ranked Harvard Crimson (5-3-1, 4-1-1 ECAC) Friday night and the Dartmouth Big Green (2-6-0, 2-3-0 ECAC) Saturday night.
Both games are set to begin at 7 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium and will stream on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown closes the first half of the season with a trip to 20th-ranked Boston College (7-5-2, 5-3-1 HEA) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 7) at Conte Forum before closing the 2021-22 season series at Yale (1-6-0, 0-5-0 ECAC) at 7 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 10) at Ingalls Rink.
Both games are set to begin at 7 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium and will stream on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 1-7-0 overall record and 1-5-0 mark in ECAC conference play. The Bears have dropped seven straight games since its season-opening win over Yale (Oct. 30).
- Nathan Plessis and Cole Quisenberry have two goals apiece to lead Brown scorers. Quisenberry leads the team with four points and Samuli Niinisaari has three assists to lead the team in that category.
- Fifth-year goaltender Luke Kania leads Brown netminders with a 3.48 goals against average and .906 save percentage in five appearances (four starts). Freshman Mathieu Caron holds a 3.70 goals against average and .904 save percentage in six appearances (four starts).
- Brown's penalty kill is tied for seventh in the ECAC and tied for 24th in the NCAA with an 82.4% kill rate (28-for-34).
- A battered Brown team will look to dress a full 19 skaters for the first time in four games on Friday.
- Harvard enters Friday night with a 5-3-1 overall record and 3-1-1 ECAC conference mark. The Crimson are 17th in the nation per the USCHO.com poll and are receiving votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Poll.
- Alex Laferriere leads the team with seven goals through nine games. Nick Abruzzese has 10 assists to lead the Crimson and Abruzzese and Sean Farrell are tied with 12 points apiece.
- In total, five Crimson have double-digit points and another 10 skaters have two or more points through nine games.
- Mitchell Gibson, who posted the win in goal for the Crimson in the first meeting with the Bears, holds a 2.39 goals against and .897 save percentage in seven starts.
- Derek Mullahy has appeared in three games, making two starts, and he holds a 1.71 goals against and .930 save percentage.
- As a team, Harvard boasts the 10th-ranked scoring offense in the nation, averaging 3.67 goals per game.
- Defensively, the Crimson rank 16th in the country, allowing 2.33 goals per game.
- On special teams, Harvard's power play clicks at 19.0% (8-for-42) to rank third in the conference and 29th in the NCAA. On the penalty kill, Harvard holds an 87.5% success rate (35-for-40) to rank third in the conference and 10th in the nation.
- Friday night marks the 180th meeting between Brown and Harvard in a series that dates back to 1898.
- Harvard holds a 118-47-14 record over Brown. As the home team, Brown holds a 24-53-9 record against the Crimson and at Meehan Auditorium Brown's record is 17-38-8.
- Dartmouth enters the weekend with a 2-6-0 overall record and 2-3-0 ECAC record in head coach Reid Cashman's first season of competition.
- Mark Gallant leads the Big Green with six goals and seven points. Sean Chisholm and Tanner Palocsik lead Dartmouth with five assists apiece.
- Between the pipes, sophomore Clay Stevenson leads Dartmouth with a 2.28 goals against and .934 save percentage in three appearances (three starts). Senior Justin Ferguson holds a 4.80 goals against and .847 save percentage in six appearances (five starts).
- Dartmouth's scoring defense ranks 12th in the ECAC and 58th in the NCAA, allowing 4.38 goals per game.
- On special teams, Dartmouth's power play clicks at 12.1% (4-for-33) to rank ninth in the ECAC and 51st in the country. The Big Green's penalty kill holds an 82.4% success rate (28-for-34) to tie Brown at seventh in the conference and 24th in the NCAA.
- Saturday night marks the first game Brown has faced Dartmouth without Bob Gaudet serving as the Big Green bench boss since March 1, 1997 – Gaudet's final game as head coach at Brown. The Bears took an 8-6 win over the Big Green in that game.
- It also marks the first game between Brown and Dartmouth without Gaudet serving as coach for either team since February 5, 1983. Gaudet served as an assistant at Dartmouth from 1983-88, head coach at Brown from 1988-97, and head coach at Dartmouth from 1997-2020.
- Saturday night marks the 163rd meeting between Brown and Dartmouth in a series dating back to 1928.
- Dartmouth holds an 85-69-8 all-time record against the Bears, bolstered by the 12 wins to begin the series from 1928-48.
- At home, Brown holds a 38-37-5 record against Dartmouth and at Meehan Auditorium that record improves to 32-25-5.
