"The two boats raced well today and of course it was exciting for the team to get the victory in the club eight," said head coach Paul Cooke '89. "It was a good indicator of the spirit of the squad. Assistant coach Rufus Biggs has worked hard to set a good tone in the formation of the team."
The top Brown boat finished first in the race with a time of 14:26.072, edging the top Harvard boat by just over three seconds. The boat broke the previous course record by two tenths of a second, which was set by Brown in 2013.
The second Brown boat posted a time of 15:09.515 to finish 12th, finishing right behind Dartmouth's second boat and Boston University's second boat.
The Naval Academy finished third in the race with a time of 14:37.672 and Harvard's second boat finished fourth with a time of 14:37.408. The Riverside Club rounded out the top-5 with a time of 14:48.902.
Brown continues competition in the final day of the Head of the Charles Regatta tomorrow with the championship four and two championship eight boats competing. The four boat is scheduled to hit the water at 1:16 p.m. with the eights scheduled to race at 1:49 p.m.
