Men's and Women's Crew Secure Several Top Five Finishes on Day One of the 60th Head of the Charles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Brown crew started the 60th Head of the Charles Regatta off strong on Saturday afternoon, with the men's and women's programs both finishing in the top five of their respective races.Â
The women kicked things off at 1:04 p.m. in the Women's Club Fours, finishing in fifth place with a time of 18:13.318. The boat was coxed by Katherine Mitchell and stroked by Olivia Tingley-Kelley. The Bears will be back on the water tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 p.m. for the Women's Championship Fours and 2:42 p.m. for the Women's Championship Eights.
In the Men's Club Eights at 1:30 p.m., Brown's "A" boat earned a second place finish with a time of 14:24.977 and the "B" boat finished in fifth place with a final time of 14:38.855. The "A" boat was coxed by Vijay Ramakrishnan and stroked by Sean Egan, while the "B" boat was coxed by Rahul Ramakrishnan and stroked by Tilden Vaezi. The Bears will resume competition tomorrow afternoon, with the Men's Championship Fours taking place at 1:05 p.m. and the Men's Championship Eights slated to start at 3:20 p.m.Â
Brown also had a handful of alumni boats competing on the Charles River today, with the Bears finishing in first place in the Men's Alumni Eights with a time of 14:21.595. In the Men's Grand Master Eights [50+], Bruno finished in seventh place with a final time of 16:09.999. The Bears also had two finishes outside the top ten in the Men's Master/Senior Master [40+] and the Men's Club Eights, with 12th place (17:26.176) and 18th place (15:26.622) finishes respectively.Â
