CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On Sunday afternoon, the Bears men's and women's crew programs competed in four championship races on the second day of the 60th Head of the Charles Regatta. A full day of racing started at 1:05 p.m. with the Men's Championship Fours and a sixth place finish for the Bears. Coxed by Jack Mershon and stroked by Eddie Andrews, Brown posted time of 15:47.807 and finished ahead of six other crews.Â
The Men's Championship Eights began at 3:20 p.m., with the Bears sending out a veteran heavy boat coxed by Elenna Seguin and stroked by Davis Kelly. Brown crossed the finish line in 13:58.257 and secured a 10th place finish, putting them in the top third of crews to take the water in that respective race. "All of the crews raced hard this weekend and we had strong performances against many of the top crews in the country,"Â Men's Crew Norman W. Alpert '80 Head Coaching Chair Paul Cooke '89 said.Â
"For the second week in a row the team has shown they can perform consistently well. The athletes have worked hard to build a good foundation this fall and they will be rewarded if they keep up the hard work and enthusiasm they have shown so far. We have a lot to be excited about."
The Brown women's crew program started racing at 1:35 p.m. in the Women's Championship Fours. Coxed by Fiona Daly and stroked by Ellie Knight, the Bears placed sixth overall after crossing the finish line in 17:49.541. In the Women's Championship Eights at 2:42 p.m, the Bears had two boats competing on the Charles River.
