Sophomore Forward Nets Her First Career Brace
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Star White scored a pair of goals in the first half, but Brown University women's soccer fell to Harvard University, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
The Bears (5-7-1, 1-3-0 Ivy) held a 2-0 lead at halftime before the visiting Crimson (6-5-1, 3-0-1 Ivy) netted three goals in the second half to remain at the top of the conference standings with 10 points.
White (Norfolk, Va.) netted goals in the fourth and 16th minutes, posting two goals in a game for the first time in her career. Junior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and freshman Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) each registered two assists on the day.
White has scored three goals in her last two games. Carchio now ranks third in the Ivy League with 14 points while Rosen has recorded a point in each of her last three games.
Just under four minutes into the game, White opened the contest's scoring with her third goal of the season. Carchio played a corner kick into the box from the right side before Rosen knocked the ball to White who sent it into the goal at the 3:49 mark.
White doubled Brown's advantage in the 16th minute on a mirror play from the left side. Carchio served a corner from the left flag into the penalty area where Rosen drove a header on frame prior to White slotting the ball into the net at 15:29.
The Crimson netted its first goal in the 49th minute as Murphy Agnew curved a shot into the goal from the left of the box off assists from Jillian Wachira and Leah Mohammadi at 48:19.
Harvard equalized at the 69:04 mark as Mohammadi converted a penalty kick into the left side of the goal. She improved to 3-for-3 on penalties this season.
The visitors scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute as Taylor Nielsen netted a goal at 82:50 after Jordan Di Verniero served a flip throw that Sophie Hirst played into the box.
For the match, Brown held advantages in shots (16-15) and corner kicks (10-4) while the Crimson led in shots on goal (7-6).
Brown sophomore goalkeeper Maria Guerrero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Harvard net-minder Danielle Etzel each made four saves.
Next, Brown hosts Cornell University on Sunday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
