“We could not be more excited to have Stu join us as the fourth Davis Emma Assistant Coach in program history,” Mollicone said. “His resume and reputation are among the best in the sailing world. Our student-athletes are going to learn a tremendous amount from his wisdom as a four-time Olympian, top team racer, and one of the world’s best one-design sailors.”
McNay has competed with the U.S. Olympic Team at the past four Olympic Games, from 2008-2021, in the 470 class. In 2016, he was part of the team that finished fourth.
In the ISAF World Rankings, McNay has been part of the top-ranked U.S. men’s 470 team every year from 2008-21.
McNay is a six-time 470 North American Champion, a two-time first-place finisher at U.S. Nationals in 2018 and 2019, and a three-time top three finisher at the European Championships, including 2015 when he claimed first place. McNay’s resume is filled with numerous other top finishes and prestigious honors from around the world.
McNay is a 2005 Yale graduate where he was member of the Bulldogs’ sailing team. He captained the team during the 2002-03 year and was a two-time All-American, the 2002-03 NEISA Sportsman of the Year, and a finalist for the 2004-05 College Sailor of the Year.
He served as an assistant coach at Yale during the falls of 2005 and 2009, and during the Spring Breaks of 2006 and 2009. He has also held coaching positions with CISA Coaching and at MIT.
