GAME 1
Brown put up 11 hits in the opener, led by senior Logan Meusy who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run. Sophomore Alex Benevento had three hits, and senior DJ Dillehay added two hits and two runs scored. Eight of the Buccaneers runs in game one were unearned, coming off three Brown errors.
Brown struck first right out of the gate in the first when freshman Matt Luigs led off with a single, then later scored on a ground ball by Dillehay.
The Buccaneers answered right back with three runs in both the bottom of the first and second innings on five hits, while only two of the runs were earned thanks to a pair of Brown errors.
Brown got two back in the fourth to cut it to 6-3 as Christian Butera led off with a walk and went to third on a single by Benevento. Butera then scored on a sac fly sac fly and Benevento scored on a double by Meusy.
CSU used a walk and a double to push the lead to 7-3 in the fourth and Brown answered back with an RBI single by Benevento in the fifth. CSU grabbed another run in the sixth then pulled away with five runs in the seventh, four of which were unearned after taking advantage of another Brown error.
Meusy tagged a two-run homer in the eighth, and a bases loaded walk and wild pitch plated two more runs in the ninth to pull Brown within 13-8.
Game 2
Brown starter Drew Nelson went 4.0+ innings in his second start of the season, allowing three earned runs, all of which came in the fifth inning. CSU stater Brady Bickett allowed just one hit and two walks, and struck out four over 5.0+ innings of work.
Brown finished the nightcap with four hits, picking up their first hit in the sixth inning on a leadoff single by Miles Newsome. The Bears scored their lone run in the seventh inning when Benevento singled and later came in on a hit by Butera.
A pitcher's duel kept the game scoreless into the bottom of the fifth when CSU pushed three runs across on a pair of RBI singles and a double steal. A bases loaded walk in the sixth forced in another run, then a three-run seventh and four more in the eighth allowed the Buccaneers to take control.
The Bears and Buccaneers will round out their weekend series with the finale on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon on ESPN+.
