PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears women's soccer program took on the Minnesota Gophers (4-1-0) on Monday and lost by a score of 2-0. The Bears fell to 3-1-0 as a result.
Ella Weil took a shot that barely missed wide in the first half, as Brown maintained consistent possession. Ayla Sahin created a great chance as well, but was denied by the goalkeeper.
The Bears generated several scoring chances in the first half but were unable to convert on any of them. They found themselves down 1-0 at the halftime break, despite outshooting the Gophers 7-3.
Brown continued to attack in the second half, with multiple Bears' substitutions recording shots on goal. The Bears' aggressive play resulted in four shots on goal in the second half.
The Bears continuously played balls into the 18-yard box but couldn't capitalize. They tallied eight shots on goal in the game but fell short by a score of 2-0. It was a valiant effort against an opponent who was nationally ranked at the beginning of the year.
Despite the loss, the crowd of 850 fans created an electric atmosphere on Youth Day at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Brown will have an opportunity to bounce back at home on Thursday, September 4, at 7 p.m.
