Softball Hosts Cornell For Three-Game Series as Ivy Play Continues

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball returns home for a three-game series against Cornell. Due to weather, the series will now be played with a doubleheader on Friday (April 4) and will finish with a single game on Saturday (April 5).
On Friday, the doubleheader will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the second game beginning roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Saturday's contest will begin at 11:30 a.m. and after the game, Brown will honor the 1990 Ivy League Championship team.
All three games of the series will be streamed on ESPN+.

THE FIRST PITCH
Brown is coming off a three-game sweep of Penn last weekend as the Bears earned their first three-game sweep of an Ivy road series since the league began its current schedule format in 2018.
Laurel Moody was named Co-Ivy League Player of the Week and Amanda Deng was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Both Moody and Deng hit .727 against Penn to earn their honors.
Brown now has back-to-back games with double-digit hits and runs for the first time this season.
The last time Brown had back-to-back games with double-digit hits was on April 15 and 16 against Dartmouth when the Bears had 11 hits in two-straight games against the Big Green.
This was the first time Brown has scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games since the 2000-01 season when the Bears scored 10 runs and 12 runs in a doubleheader against Cornell (Brown lost both of those games.
Moody is on fire at the plate, leading the Bears in batting average (.438), hits (32), home runs (8), RBI (19) and runs scored (16). Moody already has five more home runs than last season (3) and is six hits shy of her total from a season ago (38).
Moody leads the Ivy League batting average (.438/53rd NCAA) and is second in the league in on base percentage (.538/43rd NCAA), home runs per game (0.33/48th NCAA), slugging percentage (0.822/52nd NCAA).
Kaicee Klus has taken advantage of her time in the lineup, hitting .351 in 18 games on the season. Klus has 13 hits and scored 11 runs on the year.
Deng is the other Bear hitting over .300, with a .342 average on the year. Deng leads Brown with three triples and is just shy of Moody with 189 RBI. Deng is on a five-game hitting streak and has had multiple hits in each of her last three games.
Alexis Guevara continues to lead Brown in the circle with a 1.88 ERA. Guevara earned a win at Penn this weekend and now holds a 7-4 record on the season. The senior has 80 strikeouts in 78.0 innings and has only issued 17 walks.
Guevara leads the Ivy League in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.71/25th NCAA), ERA (1.88/37th NCAA), walks per seven innings (1.53/53rd NCAA), WHIP (1.09/63rd NCAA), strikeouts (80/69th NCAA), strikeouts per seven innings (7.2/79th NCAA).
As a staff, Brown's pitching leads the Ivy League in strikeouts per seven innings (6.09/45th NCAA), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.14/53rd NCAA), WHIP (1.37/60th NCAA) and earned run average (32.9/70th NCAA).
SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell enters the weekend with an 11-9 overall record and 3-3 mark in Ivy League play. The Big Red started the Ivy season losing two of three to Yale but won two of three against Dartmouth last weekend. This will be the first road weekend of the Big Red in Ivy play.
Ella Harrod leads the Big Red with a .400 average and Cornell boasts six more players with batting averages over .300. Lauren Holt is lead the team with seven home runs and four other players have two home runs.
The pitching staff holds a .590 ERA as a staff with Mila Fiordalisi leading the team with a 4.75 ERA. Kyrie Denny is tops on the team with 39 strikeouts.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Brown has owned the recent series with Cornell, having won seven of the last eight games played. The Bears swept the series back in 2023.
The games have been close with the Big Red as five of the last six games have been decided by two runs or less.
Since 2010, Brown is 13-18 against Cornell and 5-9 in home games.
