HANOVER, N.H. – Brown softball (13-20, 6-8 Ivy) earned a doubleheader sweep over Dartmouth (6-20, 4-10 Ivy) at Dartmouth Softball Park on Saturday (April 18).
The Bears took game one 5-2 before winning the second game 11-0 in six innings. Edie Cobb was stellar in the second game, throwing a complete game shutout. Jasmine Hsiao hit a home run in both games, including a grand slam in game two.
Hsiao's grand slam was the first by a Bear since Cameron Zytkewicz Ray against Merrimack last season.
The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday (April 18) beginning at 12:30 p.m. The series will finish on Sunday (April 19) at 12:30 p.m. All three games are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
GAME 1: Brown 5, Dartmouth 2
Brown pounded out 11 hits in the win in game one with eight Bears collecting base knocks. Elli Thompson, Macy Borowski and Hsiao each finished with two hits.
Borowski picked up the win, throwing the complete game. The junior allowed just two runs, one earned, on five hits and struck out eight batters. Dartmouth got to Borowski in the first with a two-out home run but couldn't score again until the sixth.
Brown responded to Dartmouth's run in the top of the second. Borowski walked to lead off the inning and Torii Ramirez ran for Brown's pitcher. Cameron Zytkewicz Ray doubled to the wall in left to score Ramirez and tie the game.
With one out in the fifth, Thompson singled in the infield and Abby Bettencourt doubled to left. Borowski then helped her own cause with a double down the left field line to score both runners and put the Bears up 3-1.
Maggie Foxx walked to start the sixth and two batters later, Hsiao drove one over the center field wall to double the Bears' lead.
GAME 2: Brown 11, Dartmouth 0 (6 innings)
The Bears offense exploded in the second game of the day, earning the run-rule win over the Big Green. Edie Cobb earned the win, throwing six innings, scattering three hits and three walks and picking up five strikeouts.
Maya Choksi finished the game with three hits, while Thompson, Zytkewicz Ray and Hsiao all collected two.
Brown loaded the bases in the first and scored on a fielder's choice after a ground ball from Borowski. Zytkewicz Ray then singled to push the lead to 2-0.
The game remained scoreless until the fifth. With one out and runners on second and third, Borowski picked up another RBI with a sacrifice fly. Zytkewicz Ray then doubled to the wall in left center to make it 4-0.
Three-straight singles started the sixth for the Bears and Thompson singled up the middle to score two runners. With the bases loaded and two outs, Foxx drew a walk to bring home Brown's seventh run of the game. On the first pitch of the next at bat, Hsiao demolished the pitch to left field for the grand slam that put the run rule in play.
Dartmouth loaded the bases with two outs in their last chance to keep the game going, but Cobb struck out the final batter of the game.
