WORCESTER, Mass. – The Brown baseball team fell on the road at Holy Cross in a non-league matchup on Tuesday evening by a score of 11-1 in eight innings.
The Bears put at least one runner on base in seven of the eight innings, stranding 12. Holy Cross put runners on in every inning, loaded the bases in four consecutive innings, and stranded 13 runners in the game while outhitting Brown 9-7. The two squads combined to draw 18 walks.
Freshman Alex Benevento and junior Mika Petersen had two hits apiece for Brown. Senior Conor Cooke tagged an RBI single, and junior Mark Henshon had a hit to run his on-base streak to 20 games.
The Bears loaded the bases in the first and put two on in the third and fifth innings but were unable to score. Despite consistently putting men on base, the Bears didn't break through until the eighth inning when Cooke deposited a single to right center field to score pinch runner Christian Butera for the team's only run.
The Crusaders jumped on the board with a run in the third inning with a leadoff walk and two-out single. Henshon helped get the Bears out of the inning with a diving backhanded play on a grounder to end the frame.
After two quick outs in the bottom of the fourth, Holy Cross struck for three more runs, starting with a single and two walks, followed by back-to-back RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-0. Two more unearned runs in the fifth pushed the Bears' deficit to 6-0. Two more runs on one hit in the sixth and a bases-loaded two-run double in the eighth brought the game to an early end.
The Bears will round out the 2025 regular season this weekend with a three-game series at home against Penn. Friday's game one is set for 3 p.m. followed by a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.
