PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Columbia at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 6-1 and dropping the nightcap 11-2.
The day was part of Brown's Little League Day, welcoming over 100 little leaguers from the Fox Point East Side Little League program.
Freshman Matt Luigs went 5-for-9 with three runs scored and an RBI across the two games. Senior DJ Dillehay had four RBIs with his third home run of the season in the opener and an RBI double in game two, and senior Mark Henshon had three hits and three RBIs in the two games.
GAME 1
Senior Peter Dubie retired the first nine batters he faced in his 6.0+ inning outing, allowing one run on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
Luigs led off the bottom of the first with a double down the left field line and later came in to score on a ground ball by Alex Benevento for the early 1-0 lead.
Brown tacked on another run in the second as Henshon reached on an infield single, then scored all the way from first when Jack Edmunds lined one over the center fielder's head for an RBI double.

The Bears got some breathing room in the fifth inning with a big three-run homer from Dillehay. Luigs singled leading off and Petersen drew a one-out walk. With two outs, Dillehay stepped up and drove one just over the left field fence for his third home run of the season to push the lead to 5-0.

Camren Piwnicki (2.0 IP) and Christian Keel (1.0 inning) got the final nine outs out of the bullpen.
GAME 2
Once again, the Bears wasted no time by putting a run on the board in the bottom of the first with Luigs leading off with a single, then scoring on a two-out double to the center field wall by Dillehay.

Columbia took its first lead of the day in the top of the third with a pair of hits, including a long two run homer down the line in right field for the 2-1 lead. A solo homer to lead off the fourth propelled a three-run frame on four hits that pushed it to 5-1.
The Lions plated single runs on two hits in both the sixth and seventh innings, then blew the game open with four more in the eighth.
Christian Butera added an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to bring it to 11-2.
Brown stranded two runners in both the fifth and sixth innings but did not have a hit between the third and seventh innings.
