Softball Sweeps Yale in Sunday Doubleheader

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Behind two strong pitching efforts and early offense, Brown softball (27-13, 11-6 Ivy) swept Yale (19-26, 7-13 Ivy) in a doubleheader on Sunday (April 27). The Bears won game one 7-3 before taking game two 6-1.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Laurel Moody set the single season program record with her 37th run batted in.

Brown's 11 Ivy wins are a program record, besting the previous mark of 10 that was set in three different seasons, most recently in 2024.

With Macy Borowski earning her 10th win of the season, Brown now had two 10-game winners for the first time since 1993.

GAME 1: Brown 7, Yale 3
Alexis Guevara (14-6) was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete game striking out nine batters and allowing just three runs in the win. Brown finished the game with nine hits, as Laurel Moody and Kaicee Klus each finished with two.

The Bears got things started early as Jasmine Hsiao doubled to start the game, picking up her 100th career hit in the process. After a fly out, Moody was walked on four-straight pitches before Guevara helped herself out with a double to center that scored Hsiao. Cameron Zytkewicz Ray doubled Brown's lead with a sac fly in the next at bat.

Amanda Deng doubled to start the bottom of the second and scored two batters later on a single by Klus to make it 3-0.

After striking out six batters in the first three innings against Central Connecticut, Guevara matched that with six more against the Bulldogs, getting out of a jam in the third with runners on the corners.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Abby Bettencourt doubled down the right field line to scored Moody and Guevara. Zytkewicz Ray came home on a sac fly from Deng and Bettencourt scored on a groundout by Leah Carey to make it 7-0.

Yale's runs came in the seventh on a two-out three-run home run but Guevara shut the door to end any threat of a comeback.

GAME 2: Brown 6, Yale 1
Macy Borowski (10-4) tossed a complete game, surrendering just two hits and one earned run, while striking out three to lead Brown to the win in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

The Bears again collected nine hits with two by Hsiao and Klus. Brown drew six walks on the day as Moody and Guevara each earned two free passes.

Hsiao started the game off with a bang with a lead-off home run to right center. It was the junior's fourth home run of the season. The inning continued with a one-out walk to Moody and Guevara reached on a fielder's choice where an error allowed Moody to reach second. A groundout moved the runners up and an infield single by Bettencourt made it 2-0.

Yale added a run on a sac fly in the top of the fourth but the Bears responded in the bottom of the frame. With one out, a walk and two-straight singles loaded the bases. After a strikeout, Moody singled up the middle to bring home two and break the Brown single season RBI record. Guevara then singled to right to score two more and make it 6-1.

That was all Borowski would need as the sophomore would allow just two baserunners over the last three innings to close out the game.

Brown will finish its series with Yale on Monday (April 28) at 12:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
