PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball head coach Mary Holt-Kelsch has announced the promotion of Wally King to Associate Head Coach.
King enters his second season with the Bears after helping Brown win the Ivy League Tournament and reach the NCAA Tournament last season.
"I'm so proud to promote Coach King to Associate Head Coach," said Holt-Kelsch. "From the minute he stepped on campus he has been such an important part of building this program and pouring into our student-athletes. This promotion is simply a reflection of the impact he already makes every single day. On a personal level, he has been such an incredible partner for me as a head coach — someone I trust, lean on, and am grateful to work alongside."
With King's guidance, Brown's offense exploded as the Bears hit 25 more home runs than the season before and increased their slugging percentage by over 50 points. The Bears finished with 69 more hits and drove in 60 more runs, while also showing more patience at the plate, drawing 40 more walks.
One of the biggest jumps under King came from 2025 Ivy League Player of the Year Laurel Moody, who led the Ivy League in batting average (.443), slugging percentage (.855), on base percentage (.542), hits (58), runs batted in (41), home runs (15) and total bases (112), while tying for the league lead with 30 walks.
