Softball Hosts Yale For Ivy League Series on Sunday and Monday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball will play host to Yale in an Ivy League series on Sunday (April 27) and Monday (April 28) at the Brown softball field.
The series will begin with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m. and will finish up with a single game on Monday also starting at 12:30 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.

THE FIRST PITCH
• Brown returns home for a crucial three-game Ivy League series against Yale as the race for a berth in the Ivy League Tournament heats up. Brown sits in a tie for third place with Columbia and Harvard as all three teams hold a 9-6 record in league play. Brown owns the tie break against both teams having won the two season series.
• Alexis Guevara broke the Brown career strikeout record (327) and Brown single season strikeout record during a career-high 14 strikeout performance in Brown's 1-0 win at Central Connecticut on April 23.
• Laurel Moody broke the Brown single season home run record with her 14th home run against Bryant earlier this year and is tied for the single season mark in RBI with 36 on the season.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• Yale is 19-24 on the season and 7-11 in Ivy League play. This will be the final weekend of league play for the Bulldogs this season.
• Yale has lost six of its last seven games with the lone win being a win in game two of its series against Dartmouth last weekend.
• The Bulldogs are 3-12 on the road this season.
• Yale's offense has been prolific this season, leading the Ivy League in hits (302), runs (209) and stolen bases (59).
SHUTTING THE BATS DOWN
• Brown threw back-to-back shutouts against Rhode Island and now has eight shutouts on the season.
• The eight shutouts are the most for a Brown pitching staff since the 1996 season when that staff finished the year with nine.
EARNING THE HONORS
• Brown has taken home seven Ivy League weekly honors this season.
• Alexis Guevara has earned four Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors, being awarded the honors on March 10, 17, April 7 and April 16.
• Laurel Moody has won Player of the Week honors twice (March 10 & 31).
• Amanda Deng took home Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on March 31.
BRINGING THE BATS TO PHILLY
• In the final two games of the series against Penn, Brown's bats exploded as the Bears finished with 12 runs in each game.
• Brown also finished the two games with 16 and 14 hits, respectively.
• It was the first time this season that Brown has had double-digit hits and runs in back-to-back games.
• The last time Brown had back-to-back games with double-digit hits was on April 15 and 16, 2023, against Dartmouth when the Bears had 11 hits in two-straight games against the Big Green.
• This was the first time Brown has scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games since the 2000-01 season when the Bears scored 10 runs and 12 runs in a doubleheader against Cornell (Brown lost both of those games.).

• The Bears 25 wins are the most since 1992 when the Bears won 31 games
• The program record for wins in a season is 33 back in 1991.
• Brown has now clinched a winning overall record for the first season since 1996 (24-14).
QUICK START
• Brown started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010 as the Bears earned a wins over Youngstown State and Winthrop.
• The Bears followed that up with a 7-3 start, the best 10-game start for the squad since the 2016 season.
• The win against Youngstown State was the first for Brown's head coach Mary Holt-Kelsch, who took over the program in August.
BRINGING IN THE RUNS
• Brown has scored in double-digits seven times this season.
• The last time Brown scored double-digit runs in more than five games was back in 1993 when the Bears accomplished the feat nine times.
MISSING THE RUN SUPPORT
• Alexis Guevara has been charged with 18 losses where she has allowed two earned run or less.
• Guevara has lost 11 games when allowing two earned runs and seven games where she only allowed a single earned run.
MOODY SETTING RECORDS
• Laurel Moody set the Brown single season home run record with her 14th home run of the season against Bryant. Moody now sits just four home runs away from tying the Ivy League home run record (18).
• Moody has moved into a tie for the most RBI in a season by a Bear with 36. That mark last set in the 2004 campaign by Courtney Jenkins.
