Laurel Moody Breaks Brown Single Season Home Run Record in Win Over Bryant

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Laurel Moody broke the Brown season-season home run record with a home run in the first game of Brown's doubleheader against Bryant on Wednesday. Game two of the doubleheader was called due to darkness resulting in a no contest.
GAME 1: Brown 7, Bryant 6
Laurel Moody broke the single-season home run record for the Bears with her 14th home run of the season in what turned out to the game-winning home run for Brown in game one of the doubleheader.
With the game tied at five in the bottom of the fourth, Moody stepped up to the plate with Maggie Foxx on base and drilled a pitch deep over the left center field plate to put the Bears on top 7-5.
Edie Cobb, who entered the game in the top of the fifth, picked up her third save of the season allowing just one run over the final three innings of the game. Bryant scored a run in the top of the seventh and had runners on second and third with two outs but induced a groundout to end the game.
Brown began the game with a bang as the Bears scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Jasmine Hsiao singled to start the inning before back-to-back triples by Maggie Foxx and Laurel Moody made it 2-0 for Brown. The inning continued as Alexis Guevara singled to right field to score Moody. After a single by Amanda Deng moved Guevara to third, Abby Bettencourt singled to scored Guevara.
Bryant tied up the game with four runs in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the inning, Deng reached on an infield single and after an error by the third baseman, Alyssa Villarde singled to right field to give the Bears the lead.
A sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth tied the game, setting the stage for Moody's heroics.
GAME 2: Brown v Bryant – No Contest
Game two of the doubleheader was officially ruled a no contest as the game was called in the middle of the fifth inning due to darkness.
UP NEXT
Brown will hit the road to Harvard for a weekend series against the Crimson. The series will start with a doubleheader on Saturday (April 19) before a single game on Sunday (April 20.)
