Softball Treks to Harvard For Ivy League Series Over Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball will make the trip to Cambridge for its final Ivy League road series of the year as the Bears will take on Harvard on Saturday (April 19) and Sunday (April 20).
The series will start on Saturday with a doubleheader and will conclude with a single game on Sunday. First pitch both days is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and all three games can be streamed on ESPN+.

THE FIRST PITCH
• The Bears beat Bryant in one game on Wednesday before the second game of the doubleheader was ruled a no contest due to darkness. Brown took the first game 7-6 as Laurel Moody set the Brown single season home run record with her 14th home run of the year.
• The Bears have won seven of their last nine Ivy League games after being swept by Dartmouth to start the conference slate. Brown won all three games at Penn before returning home to win two of three games against Cornell and two of three at Columbia.
• Brown will be looking for its first win at Harvard since 2010. The Bears have dropped 21-straight games on the road to the Crimson.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
• Harvard sits in a tie for second place in the Ivy League with an 8-4 conference record and the Crimson are 19-8 overall.
• Harvard has won eight-straight games, taking two from Columbia and sweeping Penn and Yale.
• The Crimson have seven batters hitting over .300 on the season with Sophie Sun sitting in second place in the Ivy League with a .402 batting average.
• In the circle, Harvard's top three pitchers in innings pitched all boast sub-3.50 ERAs with two under 3.00. Nicollete Hunter has a team-best 2.32 ERA and is 8-1 on the season.
SHUTTING THE BATS DOWN
• Brown threw back-to-back shutouts against Rhode Island and now has seven shutouts on the season.
• The seven shutouts are the most for a Brown pitching staff since the 1996 season when that staff finished the year with nine.
• Guevara was tagged for three earned runs against Columbia in her last outing, the most she had given up since allowing five against Dartmouth on March 22.
• Guevara had gone eight-straight outings that spanned 39.1 innings with only allowing two earned runs or less.
• The run in the bottom of the second against Columbia broke a scoreless stretch of 15.1 consecutive innings thrown by Guevara.
EARNING THE HONORS
• Brown has taken home six Ivy League weekly honors this season.
• Alexis Guevara has earned four Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors, being awarded the honors on March 10, 17, April 7 and April 16.
• Laurel Moody has won Player of the Week honors twice (March 10 & 31).
• Amanda Deng took home Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on March 31.
BRINGING THE BATS TO PHILLY
• In the final two games of the series against Penn, Brown's bats exploded as the Bears finished with 12 runs in each game.
• Brown also finished the two games with 16 and 14 hits, respectively.
• It was the first time this season that Brown has had double-digit hits and runs in back-to-back games.
• The last time Brown had back-to-back games with double-digit hits was on April 15 and 16, 2023, against Dartmouth when the Bears had 11 hits in two-straight games against the Big Green.
• This was the first time Brown has scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games since the 2000-01 season when the Bears scored 10 runs and 12 runs in a doubleheader against Cornell (Brown lost both of those games.).
THE BIG 2-0
• With two wins at Columbia, Brown reached the 20-win mark, now sitting at 21 wins on the season.
• The Bears 22 wins are the most since 1996 when Brown went 24-14.
• The program record for wins in a season is 33 back in 1991.
QUICK START
• Brown started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010 as the Bears earned a wins over Youngstown State and Winthrop.
• The Bears followed that up with a 7-3 start, the best 10-game start for the squad since the 2016 season.
• The win against Youngstown State was the first for Brown's head coach Mary Holt-Kelsch, who took over the program in August.
BRINGING IN THE RUNS
• Brown has scored in double-digits six times this season.
• The last time Brown scored double-digit runs in more than five games was back in 1993 when the Bears accomplished the feat nine times.
MISSING THE RUN SUPPORT
• Alexis Guevara has been charged with 18 losses where she has allowed two earned run or less.
• Guevara has lost 11 games when allowing two earned runs and seven games where she only allowed a single earned run.
PICKING UP THE WINS
• Alexis Guevara earned her 11th win of the season with a win over Columbia in the series finale. The win matched her win total from a season ago.
• Guevara's 11 wins are the most by a Brown pitcher in a single season since 2011 when Kristie Chin had 12 wins.
MOODY SETTING RECORDS
• Laurel Moody set the Brown single season home run record with her 14th home run of the season against Bryant. Moody now sits just four home runs away from tying the Ivy League home run record (18).
• Moody has also moved into fourth all-time for Brown single season RBI with 34. The record for most RBI in a season is 36, last set in the 2004 campaign by Courtney Jenkins.
STREAKING BEARS
• Jasmine Hsiao has bumped her average up above .300 as the junior is on a team-high 11-game hitting streak and 12-game reached base streak. Moody is second on the team with current eight-game streaks in both.
