Men's Lacrosse Takes Ocean State Cup with Victory Over Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Brown Bears (2-3, 0-0 Ivy League) outscored the Bryant Bulldogs (2-3, 0-0 America East) 7-4 in the second half to take a 10-8 road win Tuesday night to capture the 2025 Ocean State Cup.
It marks Brown's first Ocean State Cup victory since 2022 and the eighth time since 2010 the Bears have captured the in-state trophy.
"Bryant is a well-coached team that is extremely talented all over the field," said head coach Jon Torpey. "I'm really proud of our second half effort. We got great production from a lot of guys and scored in multiple ways."
Ennis Udo broke the deadlock 5:52 into the opening period off a feed from Wells Bligh to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs drew even with a man-up goal from Jack Lonsinger two minutes later.
Connor Foley (16 saves) was strong from the start and finished the opening quarter with six saves.
Marcus Wertheim gave Brown a 2-1 lead less than a minute into the second quarter with his sixth goal of the season.
The Bulldogs responded with three consecutive goals in the heart of the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead with 8:14 remaining in the half.
Felix Rockefeller brought the Bears within a goal with his first career tally with 1:54 remaining in the half.
Mark Witt opened the second half with a pole goal 13 seconds into the third quarter to bring the score even at 4-4. Aidan McLane gave Brown a 5-4 lead with 12:01 remaining in the quarter with his first of the night.
After the Bulldogs drew even, McLane ripped his second of the night past Bryant goalie Scott Einarson (9 saves) with Matteo Corsi picking up the assist. Wertheim then added his second of the night to give Brown a 7-5 lead with 10:10 to play in the third quarter.
Lucas Elmaleh cut into the Brown lead with 5:37 remaining in the third with his first goal of the night.
Michael Dowd tallied Brown's second pole goal of the night with his first career goal with four minutes remaining in the third. McLane finished off the hat trick a minute later to give Brown a 9-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Amend scored his second of the game to bring the Bulldogs back within two with 10 minutes remaining.
Jeremy Hopsicker struck with 4:15 remaining to extend Brown's lead back to three at 10-7.
Lonsinger gave the Bulldogs hope with his second of the game with 45 seconds left. Dash Sachs won the ensuing faceoff with Jake Demert scooping the ground ball to seal the Ocean State Cup victory.
