Wertheim Records 100th Career Point as Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Princeton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Marcus Wertheim recorded his 100th career point as the Brown men's lacrosse team (5-4, 0-2 Ivy) fell 20-14 to No. 8 Princeton (6-2, 2-1 Ivy) on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"You can't give a team with the offensive firepower of Princeton that big of a head start," Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse said. "Our guys fought to the final whistle but we had way too many self-inflicted wounds. A lot to clean up moving forward and I look forward to seeing how the guys respond on Monday."
Along with his 100th career point, Wertheim recorded a career-high eight points with four goals and four assists. Jameson Steele notched a career-high five points.
Overall, the Bears outshot the Tigers 51-43 and won 21 face-offs to Princeton's 16.
Princeton opened the game on a 2-0 run before the Bears responded with a quick 3-0 spurt on two goals from Wertheim and one from Steele. Wertheim's second goal gave the Bears a 3-2 lead before the Tigers closed the frame on a 4-0 run as they took a 7-3 advantage into the second quarter.
The Tigers outscored the Bears 4-2 in the second quarter, Wertheim completed his hat trick in the second as Steele also found the back of the net. The Tigers took an 11-5 lead into the second half.
Each side found the back of the net three times through the first eight minutes of the second half. Wertheim's fourth goal cut the Princeton lead to 15-9 before the Tigers closed the frame on a 3-0 run to take an 18-9 lead into the final 15 minutes.
The Bears outscored the Tigers 5-2 in the fourth quarter behind two goals from Jeremy Hopsicker and one from Brady O'Kane and Baden Brown. Brown outscored Princeton 17-8 and won six out of seven face-offs.
Brown will travel to Cambridge, Mass. to take on No. 3 Harvard on Saturday, Apr. 4. The opening face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Jordan Field. Fans can purchase tickets here.
