Men’s Lacrosse Opens Ivy League Play With 9-8 Loss at Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Brown Bears (2-4, 0-1 Ivy League) fell to No. 17 Penn (4-3, 1-0 Ivy League) 9-8 to open Ivy League play on Saturday afternoon.
After Penn extended its lead to 5-2, Marcus Wertheim and Felix Rockefeller found the back of the net as Brown cut the lead to 5-4. Leading by one goal, the Quakers outscored the Bears 2-1 through the final 6:38 of the half to take a 7-5 lead into the second half.
In the first half, Brown won nine out of 14 face-offs as Connor Foley made four saves. Brown out shot Penn 13-11 in the opening half.
Both sides scored one goal each in the third quarter, Ennis Udo found the back of the net for the Bears as the Quakers took an 8-6 lead into the final 15 minutes. Marcus Wertheim found the back of the net for the second time to cut the Penn lead to 9-8 with 12 seconds remaining, but it wasn't enough as Penn held on for the victory.
Brown will be back in action on Monday, Mar. 17 when they travel to Villanova. The opening face-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

"I really love coaching this team and overall I thought our guys played a hard fought league game, but we didn't finish the job," said head coach Jon Torpey. "At times our execution wasn't on par with our standard. Credit to Penn and their staff on the win. We have a quick turnaround before we play a very talented Villanova team and I look forward to seeing how our guys respond, adjust and recover."
