
Softball Uses Nine-Run Fourth to Sweep Series at Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Brown softball (15-9, 3-3 Ivy) completed its sweep of Penn (2-23, 0-9 Ivy) with a 12-1 win at Penn Park on Sunday (March 30).
The Bears finished the game with 14 hits as five different batters finished the game with at least two hits. Laurel Moody continues to shine at the plate, leading the way with three hits. Jasmine Hsiao, Kaicee Klus, Cameron Zytkewicz Ray and Amanda Deng all had two hits.
Alexis Guevara started the game and threw three innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out six batters. Macy Borowski closed out the game with two perfect innings, striking out three.
The runs started early for Brown as the Bears had three-straight singles to load the bases before Abby Bettencourt was hit by a pitch to score Hsiao. After a strikeout, Deng singled home Klus and Brown led 2-0.
Penn's lone run came on a two-out home run in the bottom of the first that cut the lead to 2-1.
Brown got the run back as Berlinger started the inning reaching on an error and Moody delivered a two-out single that brought Berlinger home.
The game was blown open by the Bears in the fourth. Hsiao started the inning with a double, followed by a single from Klus and an intentional walk to Moody to load the bases. Back-to-back singles by Bettencourt and Zytkewicz Ray moved the runners around and scored two runs for the Bears.
Deng hit a hard chopper that went over the head of Penn's third baseman and scored two more runs. Leah Carey entered as a pinch hitter and singled to score another run. After a flyout and walkout, Hsiao stepped to the plate for the second time in the inning. Hsiao struck out swinging on a ball in the dirt but Penn's catcher did not tag Hsiao, who advanced to second while Berlinger went to third and Carey scored.
The inning continued as Klus reached on an error and Berlinger scored. Moody collected another RBI with a single and during the next at bat, Klus came across on a wild pitch for the final run of the game.
GAME NOTES
Brown will return home for its next Ivy League series as the Bears will host Cornell on April 5-6.

GAME NOTES
- Brown now has back-to-back games with double-digit hits and runs for the first time this season.
- The last time Brown had back-to-back games with double-digit hits was on April 15 and 16 against Dartmouth when the Bears had 11 hits in two-straight games against the Big Green.
- This was the first time Brown has scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games since the 2000-01 season when the Bears scored 10 runs and 12 runs in a doubleheader against Cornell (Brown lost both of those games.
Brown will return home for its next Ivy League series as the Bears will host Cornell on April 5-6.
