Boree’s Late Homer Powers Baseball to Doubleheader Sweep of Bryant
3/16/2025 6:22:00 PM | Baseball
In the opener, junior Peter Dubie tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief to earn his first career win, freshman Jack Edmunds tagged his first career homer, and junior Mika Petersen had three hits to lift Brown to the 7-4 victory in seven innings.
In game two, Brown led into the eighth inning before falling behind by two, but a two-out rally capped by Boree's homer lifted the Bears to a dramatic 7-6 win. DJ Dillehay had two hits in game two, and Petersen went 5-for-9 with three runs and two RBIs, including a home run, over the two games to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
GAME 1
Brown trailed 3-0 after three innings but rallied to take the lead with a four-run fourth. Boree, Petersen and Dillehay used three consecutive singles to starts the inning before Christian Butera added a sac fly to make it 4-2, and Edmunds followed with a big two-run homer to put the Bears in front.
After Bryant tied it in the fifth, Brown scored the final three runs of the game with an RBI triple from Nathan Brasher in the sixth, and a key two-out, two-run single by Logan Meusy in the seventh to push the lead to 7-4. Dubie got the final nine outs while allowing just two hits and one walk.
GAME 2
Brown jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings, as Butera plated Dillehay with an RBI double in the second and later came in to score on a double by Edmunds. Petersen followed up in the third inning with a two-run shot of his own to double the lead to 4-0. Ian Keusch allowed just one hit and one run while striking out three over 4.0 innings in his first career start.
Bryant chipped away with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to pull within one. After stranding the bases loaded in both the sixth and seventh innings, the Bulldogs broke through with three runs after two outs in the eighth. An infield dribbler for a single allowed two runs to come home and give Bryant the lead, and a single later in the inning tacked on an insurance run to give Bryant the 6-4 lead heading to the ninth.
Down to the final out, Boree delivered the biggest hit of season for the Bears, sitting on a 2-1 fastball and crushed a no-doubter into the woods well beyond the left-center field fence for the dramatic three-run homer that gave Brown the lead back 7-6.
After a leadoff double and fly out to start the bottom of the ninth, Brenden Kline induced a flyout to the warning track in right field, and Brasher threw to second to double off the runner who had rounded third base for the double play to seal the win.
