PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown Head Baseball Coaching Chair Frank Holbrook has announced two new additions to his staff for the upcoming 2026 season in Mike Maher and Pete Kelich.
Maher will work directly with the Bears' infielders, baserunners and hitters, and will also coach first base. Kelich will serve as the program's Director of Pitching Development.
Maher comes to College Hill after most recently serving as an assistant coach with the Worcester Bravehearts of the Futures League during the 2025 season where he worked with the team's hitters and infielders. He has also spent the last year as a Mental Skills and Strength and Conditioning Coach at Complete Strength and Conditioning in Norwood, Mass.
Maher played five seasons of college baseball for current Brown Associate Head Coach Eric Podbelski at Wheaton College, where he earned Second Team All-NEWMAC honors in 2024 after posting a .341 batting average with a team-leading 35 runs scored and a .468 on-base percentage.
Maher earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Wheaton in 2024.
At Brown, Kelich will rejoin Holbrook after previously serving as the pitching coach on his staff at Rhode Island College in 2022 and 2023. One of the top pitchers in program history at Bryant, Kelich compiled 30 career wins, which still ranks second all-time, and remains the program's all-time leader with 273 career strikeouts. He also sits third all-time with 335.2 innings pitched from 2010-2013. He was a two-time First Team All-Northeast Conference selection in 2012 and 2013, a two-time Rawlings All-Region honoree and was named the 2012 NEC Pitcher of the Year.
Kelich was named the NECBL's Reliever of the Year while playing for the Newport Gulls in 2012 and was honored as part of the Gull's Hall of Fame Class of 2024. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 38th round of the 2013 MLB Draft and in his rookie season, Kelich was named the Arizona League Pitcher of the Year after compiling a 7-1 record with a 1.40 ERA, and 69 strikeouts over 58.0 innings.
Kelich graduated from Bryant in 2013 with a degree in marketing.
