The five home runs in game one was the most in a single game by Brown since April 28, 2010 against Dartmouth.
Junior shortstop DJ Dillehay went 6-for-10 over the two games with a pair of homers, three RBIs and three runs scored. Miles Newsome and Mika Petersen each went 4-for-8, Christian Butera and Logan Meusy also homered twice each, while senior Gunner Boree, junior Mark Henshon and sophomore Brandon Chang also homered. Boree and Butera each finished the day with three RBIs.
GAME 1
Brown pounded out a season-high 17 hits in the opener, including 11 through the first four innings. All nine starters reached base with eight recording hits, including six with multiple hits. Petersen, Dillehay, and Newsome all had three hits apiece, with Butera, Boree, Dillehay, Chang and Meusy all homering.
After three hits in the first inning, the Bears were able to break through for a run in the second. After loading the bases with one out, Boree drew a bases loaded walk to force in Newsome for the 1-0 lead. The Bears doubled the lead in the third when Butera drilled a no-doubter to left field for his first career home run to make it 2-0.
The lead would double once again leading off the fourth as the bottom of the order supplied the pop with Chang and Meusy delivering back-to-back homers in the span of four pitches to make it 4-0.
The Lions, who were held hitless through the first three innings, roared to life with a massive seven-run outburst on seven hits in the fourth. Five consecutive singles in a row, four of which produced runs, cut the Bears lead to two, followed by a huge three-run home run for Sam Miller to center field that gave Columbia the 7-6 lead.
Brown retook the lead in the sixth as Dillehay stepped into one and drove it over the left-center field fence for his first homer of the year to give Brown the 8-7 lead.
Another big inning in the seventh by the Lions with six runs on six hits gave them the lead they would not relinquish. Miller's second home run of the game leading off tied the game 8-8, and five more hits and a pair of walks the rest of the frame pushed the lead to 13-8.
Boree clubbed his second homer in as many games in the top of the eighth to the opposite field to cut it to 13-9, but that was as close as the Bears would get.
GAME 2
All nine starters recorded a hit in game two, with Dillehay leading the way with three. Six different players picked up one RBI apiece. After the Lions put up two runs on two hits in the first, Brown came back with two of their own in the second to tie it as Henshon led off with a home run, and Newsome tagged an RBI double.
Columbia took advantage of a throwing error for an unearned run in the third, but the Bears once again came back to tie it in the top of the fourth with the second homer of the day from Butera.
Columbia took control with a huge 11-run bottom of the fourth, sending 14 men to the plate and pounding out nine hits, four of which left the yard, including two from rookie Anthony Temesvary to take a 14-3 lead.
The Bears got two back in the sixth on Meusy's second homer of the day and an RBI double by Boree and got another run on the board in the seventh courtesy of a Dillehay home run. In between, Columbia added five more runs on four hits in the sixth.
The Bears and Lions will finish off their three-game series tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon with a single game. First pitch is set for noon on ESPN+.
