JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Brown baseball team dropped the fourth and final game of their weekend series at North Florida on Sunday by a score of 10-2, giving the Ospreys a four-game sweep. Five of the Ospreys 10 runs were unearned.
Senior Gunner Boree had two hits for the Bears, junior DJ Dillehay added two hits, an RBI and run scored, senior Conor Cooke had an RBI double and junior Stiles Begnaud tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
Dillehay finished the weekend series 5-for-12 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
Brown jumped in front right away in the first as Mika Petersen was hit by a pitch with two outs, stole second, and came in on a single by Dillehay.
UNF came back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, one of which was unearned. The Ospreys used three straight singles to load the bases with nobody out, scoring their first run on a throwing error, and the second run on an RBI groundout.
Starting pitcher Bryan Yang used a double play to work around a hit and error in the second inning. In the third inning, North Florida took advantage of a two-out error to plate three unearned runs, which came on a two-run double and a wild pitch to push the lead to 5-1.
The Bears answered back with a run of their own in the fourth inning. Dillehay led off with his second single of the game, moved to second on a walk by Brandon Chang, and scored on a two-out double down the left field line by Cooke that made it 5-2.
UNF got the run back and then some in the bottom of the fourth, tacking on three more runs on four hits to hold an 8-2 lead. They would tack on a single run in the sixth on a solo homer, and an unearned run in the seventh to pull away.
Brown will return to action on Friday, February 28 at 4 p.m. when it starts a three-game weekend series at Elon.
