Men's Hockey Hosts No. 16/17 Providence College in Mayor's Cup Game

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (3-9-0, 2-6-0 ECAC) host the 16th-ranked Providence College Friars (7-6-2, 4-3-1 HEA) in the annual Mayor's Cup Tuesday night at Meehan Auditorium.
Tuesday night's Teddy Bear Toss game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
Fans who bring a stuffed animal will receive a complimentary ticket to the Brown men's basketball game against Yale on January 5. All teddy bears will be donated to the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Tuesday with a 3-9-0 overall record and 2-6-0 ECAC mark. The Bears are looking to snap a four-game losing streak against the Friars.
- The Bears average 2.17 goals per game and are led by Ryan St. Louis with four goals. Charlie Gollob, Andrew King, and Brian Nicholas rank second on the team with three goals apiece.
- Ivan Zadvernyuk leads the Bears with seven assists and is tied with Nicholas for the team lead in points with eight.
- Brown's power play has three goals in 33 attempts (9.5%). Zadvernyuk, Ben Poitras, and Michael Salandra have the man-up goals.
- Defensively, Brown allows 3.57 goals per game. Goaltender Tyler Shea holds a 3.07 goals against average and .906 save percentage in nine games.
- Brown's penalty kill clicks at 77.3% (34-44) to rank ninth in the ECAC and 44th nationally.
- Brown ranks sixth in the conference at the faceoff dot (49.7%).
- Providence College enters Tuesday after a weekend off with a 7-6-2 overall record and 4-3-1 Hockey East mark. The Friars are 16th in the USCHO.com poll and 17th in the USA Hockey poll.
- The Friars have split the last three weekend series against Merrimack, UMass, and Colorado College.
- Offensively, PC averages 2.93 goals per game to rank fifth in Hockey East and 30th nationally.
- John Mustard leads the Friars with seven goals and is second on the team with 12 points. Logan Sawyer leads the team with eight assists and 13 points.
- The PC power play ranks second in Hockey East and 17th nationally at 23.5% (12-51).
- Defensively, the Friars allow 2.47 goals per game to rank fourth in Hockey East and 17th nationally.
- Goaltender Philip Svedeback holds a 2.31 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in 14 starts. He was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month in November. He posted a 1.86 GAA and a .934 save percentage in eight games.
- The penalty kills clicks at 82.5% (52-63) to rank seventh in Hockey East and 23rd nationally.
- The Friars win 52.5% of faceoffs to lead Hockey East and rank 12th nationally.
- Tuesday night marks the 107th meeting between Brown and Providence College in a series dating back to 1927.
- PC owns the series edge, 56-47-3, but the Bears hold a 29-28-1 record at home.
- Brown looks for its first Mayor's Cup victory since the 2022-23 season.
- Ryan St. Louis recorded his first multi-point game of the season with two goals against Harvard (Dec. 6).
- St. Louis recorded 10 multi-point games in 2024-25 to lead the Bears.
- Brian Nicholas added a goal and an assist for his first multi-point game of the campaign and seventh of his career.
- Michael Salandra chipped in three assists for his first career multi-point effort.
- Sophomore Andrew King made his season debut at Dartmouth (Dec. 5) and recorded his first career goal early in the first period and added another pair to tally a hat trick.
- King missed the early part of the season to injury and now ranks second on the team with three goals.
- Assistant Coach and Director of Operations Evan Moorhouse was added to the staff for the United States Collegiate Selects squad for the upcoming Spengler Cup.
- Moorhouse will serve as video coach in addition to hockey operations duties in Davos, Switzerland in late December.
- He joins a staff that is led by Penn State head coach Guy Gadowsky. Former Brown assistant and current New Hampshire head coach Mike Souza and Niagara head coach Jason Lammers will serve as the assistant coaches.
- It marks the first time collegiate players will represent the United States at the historic Spengler Cup, the 97th iteration of the international tournament.
- The United States opens the tournament against Team Canada on December 26.
