Three Homers Not Enough as Baseball Falls in Walk-off at Holy Cross
4/30/2024 9:06:00 PM | Baseball
Senior Quinn Rooks went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run in his first career three-hit game. Sophomore DJ Dillehay had two hits and an RBI, sophomore Mark Henshon clubbed his first career home run and scored twice, and senior Charles Crawford clubbed his fourth home run of the season.
Brown starter Christian Keel went the first 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with just one walk and three strikeouts. Sophomore Stiles Begnaud tossed scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout.
The Bears wasted no time jumping on the board in the first inning with an unearned run to take an early 1-0 lead. Henshon reached on a throwing error leading off, stole second, and scored on an RBI single to right field by Dillehay.
The bats broke out in a big way in the fifth to the tune of three solo home runs in the frame, including back-to-back jacks on the first two pitches of the inning. Rooks got things started with a long home run to left-center field, and Crawford followed on the very next pitch with a moonshot over the scoreboard in right-center. Two batters later, Henshon lined his first career home run to left field that pushed the Bears' lead to 4-0 at the halfway point.

Holy Cross got on the board in the fifth and cut the deficit in half to 4-2 following a leadoff double and two-run homer. Ty Harris got the Bears out of further trouble with a big bases loaded strikeout to end the inning.
The Crusaders tacked on another run, this one unearned after a two-out error and RBI single in the sixth to pull within 4-3, then tied it in the seventh with a leadoff solo homer.
Brown regained a one-run lead in the top of the eighth, loading the bases with nobody out. With the bases juiced, Gunner Boree stepped up and lined one up the middle that hit a baserunner for a single, and as a result no run was able to score on the play. Up next, Reece Rappoli lifted a sac fly to deep right field to plate Nathan Brasher with the go-ahead run.
The Crusaders rallied to plate two runs in the ninth inning, tying the game with a walk and three hit batters to start the inning, followed by a walk-off single up the middle.
Brown will conclude the 2024 season this weekend at home with a three-game series against Cornell. First pitch of Saturday's Senior Day doubleheader is set for 11:30 a.m. on ESPN+ and will be televised regionally on NESN+.
