PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference matchup against Bryant by a score of 14-2 in eight innings on Tuesday afternoon at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Sophomore Mark Henshon went 1-for-4 with a run, picking up the Bears' lone hit on the afternoon to extend his on-base streak to 15 games. Sophomore Mika Petersen reached base twice via a pair of walks and scored a run, and junior Gunner Boree walked three times to extend his on-base streak to 17 games and reached base in 10 consecutive plate appearances dating back to Sunday's game against Harvard.
Bryant stranded three runners on base through the first two innings as Christian Keel struck out the side in the second to keep the game scoreless. After a walk and infield single in the third, Carmine Petosa drove a three-run homer down the right field line to spot the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. Bryant pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fourth with two more runs, one of which was unearned.
Brown got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth via two walks, an infield hit and two wild pitches to pull within three before stranding the bases loaded.
Bryant got two runs in the sixth inning, both coming unearned after a two-out error. Brown loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning via two walks and a hit by pitch but was unable to score.
Bryant put the game away with a big six-run outburst on five hits in the top of the eighth to extend the lead to 14-2 before the game was called after eight innings due to rain.
The Bears will continue their five-game homestand this weekend when they welcome Princeton to Providence on Saturday, April 6 for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on ESPN+.
