Men's Hockey Battles to End in Loss at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Brown Bears (8-15-2, 6-11-2 ECAC) battled to the end against the Colgate Raiders (13-13-4, 10-6-2 ECAC) but ultimately fell 4-2 at the Class of 1965 Arena on Saturday.
We need to play a complete game; we've been very inconsistent from shift to shift, period to period, and game to game," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "Our depth is being tested with the injuries we're currently facing. We need to have a great week of practice and I also anticipate getting some of our injured players back."
Brown had a pair of good chances halfway through the first as Tyler Kopff broke through the Raider defense and got a shot on net against Carter Gylander (29 saves). Kopff drew a slashing penalty against Nick Anderson on the play but the Bears came up empty on the man advantage.
Ethan Manderville gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead 13:23 into the first period, re-directing a point shot from Tommy Bergsland to beat Brown goaltender Lawton Zacher (29 saves).
Manderville doubled the lead with a rebound effort with 45 seconds remaining in the first for his first career multi-goal game.
Alex DiPaolo added a power play goal 11:18 into the second period with assists going to Ross Mitton and Brett Chorske.
Gylander turned aside breakaway chances from Matt Sutton and Noah Wakeford in the opening minutes of the third period to keep the Bears off the board.
Sutton struck on the power play 6:47 into the frame to give the Bears life, blasting a shot off a feed from Brett Bliss to beat Gylander. Thomas Manty picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
Just over two minutes later, Ben Raymond tallied a goal for the Raiders to push the lead back to three at 4-1.
Zackary Tonelli finished a feed from Ryan Shostak for his first career goal 10:54 into the third. Shostak forced a turnover with Gylander behind the net before finding the sophomore in front for the goal.
