Men's Hockey Falls to RPI on Saturday
1/17/2026 7:12:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
TROY, N.Y. – The RPI Engineers (6-17-0, 3-9-0 ECAC) handed the Brown Bears (4-15-0, 3-9-0 ECAC) a conference loss Saturday afternoon, taking a 4-1 home win at Houston Field House.
"We were our own worst enemy," the Class of 1975 Head Coach for Men's Hockey Brendan Whittet '94 said. "RPI's first goal was the result of a turnover leading to a penalty because we turned the puck over. Their second goal was off a bad turnover, the third goal was a turnover coming out of our zone.
"We have to be able to play a little more mistake-free hockey games in order to win on the road. We did some good things, but obviously not good enough. We have to get back after it and figure some things out.
"It's frustrating, but we need to find a way to get some positive momentum with a good week of practice and go try to win a road game on Saturday against Stonehill. We're a team that's learning lessons, but it seems to be the same lessons over and over again. We need to grow up, we need to mature, and it needs to happen quickly."
RPI scored the game's first goal 8:31 into the first period as Rainers Rullers got behind the Brown defense on the power play off a feed from Dovar Tinling. Both teams finished the opening period with 13 shots on goal.
Brad McNeil doubled the RPI lead 2:25 into the second period with his first goal of the season.
Ryan Shostak brought the Bears back within a goal just 22 seconds later, finishing a centering feed from Michael Salandra for his first goal of the campaign. Alex Pineau added the secondary assist on the goal.
The Engineers regained a two-goal lead seven minutes into the third period as Trevor Russell blasted a one-timer from the point to beat Brown goaltender Tyler Shea (35 saves).
With Shea pulled for the extra attacker, Tyler Wallace pushed the final score to 4-1 with an empty-net goal.
