Men's Hockey Falls at #12 Cornell Friday

ITHACA, N.Y. – The 12th-ranked Cornell Big Red (16-4-4, 11-4-2 ECAC) pushed its unbeaten streak to 13 games with a 3-0 home win over the Brown Bears (8-14-2, 6-10-1 ECAC) Friday night at Lynah Rink.
"We got beat by a very talented hockey team," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "We were chasing the game all night and they had the puck for large stretches. We are playing without some high-end players including our top two centers and a power play defenseman. I am looking for others to step up in their absence and fill those roles."
Cornell took the lead 6:44 into the first as Ryan Walsh tallied his tenth goal of the season with assists going to Dalton Bancroft and Ondrej Psenicka.
The Bears killed off the lone penalty of the first period and Lawton Zacher (30 saves) recorded 12 saves to keep the score at 1-0.
Tyler Kopff nearly evened the score five minutes into the second as his shot snuck past goaltender Ian Shane (10 saves), but Cornell defenseman Tim Rego cleared the puck off the goal line.
Zacher robbed Nick DeSantis of a goal with a glove save 6:48 into the middle frame, moving to his left to make the highlight-reel save.
Hoyt Stanley doubled the Big Red lead with 1:09 remaining in the second with assists going to Walsh and Bancroft.
The Bears had three quick chances on Shane halfway through the second, but the Mike Richter Award semifinalist turned aside all three to keep the Bears off the board.
Zacher was pulled for the extra attacker with 2:56 remaining in the third but it was Kyle Penney with the empty-net goal with 1:33 remaining to seal the Cornell win.
