10/13/2024 5:30:00 PM | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA - The Brown women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw at Penn on Sunday afternoon at Rhodes Field.
The draw puts Brown at 2-1-1 in Ivy League play with three games remaining in the regular season.
"It's been a tough stint with three games in eight days and two of those games being on the road," head coach Kia McNeill said. "Obviously I was hopeful we could get three points today against Penn but I'm also happy we did enough to get a point on the road. Penn is a team where their record is not reflective of how strong they are as a team."
The Quakers held the Bears to one shot total in the first half, Brown's lone shot came from Nadja Meite, Meite's shot was turned aside by Penn goalkeeper Annabel Austen.
Penn had four shots total in the opening 45 minutes, Bella Schopp stopped the lone shot by the Quakers that was on target.
The game entered the second half scoreless as the Bears had a corner kick opportunity 89 seconds into the second half, Brown was unable to get a shot on the corner kick try.
Angelina Vargas had a chance to break the deadlock in the 64th minute, but her shot missed the net to keep the game scoreless. Bella Schopps lone save of the second half came in the 67th minute, Schopp saved an opportunity by Lilly White.
Brown's best chance of the second half came in the 87th minute, Nadja Meite fired a shot in the top right part of the net, but Meite's shot was stopped by Austen resulting in a corner kick.
Meite had another chance with less than one minute remaining in the contest, but her shot was stopped by Austen, ending the game scoreless.
Meite led the Bears with three shots and Bella Schopp recorded her second consecutive shutout and fifth of the season with two saves.
"We knew it was going to be a battle but we struggled to generate many quality chances and had to settle for a tie," McNeill added. We're looking forward to being back home next week against Columbia for our alumni weekend."
Brown will return home to welcome Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 19, kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+. The Bears' game against Columbia will be Alumni Day & Breast Cancer Awareness.
