CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown softball (5-19, 2-7 Ivy) fell into two early holes they could not overcome in losses to Harvard (14-9-1, 7-2 Ivy) on Sunday to close out the three-game set with the Crimson.
Game 1: Harvard 6, Brown 2
Harvard scored two runs in both of the first two innings to jump ahead of the Bears 4-0.
Brown first got on the board in the fourth inning as Laurel Moody led off the inning with a double. Dara English hit a deep fly ball to center that was caught at the wall but Moody tagged up and scored all the way from second.
Brown's next run came in the sixth as Moe Kastens doubled to left center. One of two hits on the day for Kastens. Liv Kam entered the game to run for Kastens and stole third. On the 10th pitch of the next at bat, Meghan Gormley singled home Kam.
Harvard added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two more runs on back-to-back doubles.
Alexis Guevara picked up the loss for the Bears, going all six innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out two.
Game 2: Harvard 7, Brown 0
The Bears managed just two hits in the series finale defeat to Harvard, with the hits coming from Dara English and Julia Gubner. Brown also drew four walks on the day but could not get a run across.
Harvard struck early with four runs in the bottom of the first against Brown starter Erin Elgas. The Crimson loaded the bases in the bottom of the second when Jodie Aguirre entered the game for Brown. Harvard scored on an error but Aguirre got out of the inning on the next at bat to keep the game 5-0.
Aguirre kept Harvard off the board for the next two innings but three-straight singles combined with an error allowed two more runs to cross the plate.
Brown's first hit came on a single by Gubner in the second and English singled in the top of the seventh but the Bears could not get the offense going in the loss.
