Men's Hockey Hosts Northeastern in Teddy Bear Toss Game Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (4-6-1, 2-5-0 ECAC) host the Northeastern Huskies (4-8-1, 1-8-0 HEA) in non-conference action Saturday night at Meehan Auditorium. Saturday's game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.
There will be a Teddy Bear Toss during the second intermission of Saturday's game. Bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to benefit the Boys and Girls Club.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Saturday with a 4-6-1 overall record and 2-5-0 ECAC mark. Brown is 2-1-1 in the last four games with wins over St. Lawrence and Stonehill.
- The offense averages 2.6 goals per game and Ryan St. Louis leads the team with nine goals. His 0.82 goals per game lead the ECAC and rank fourth in the country.
- Freshman Max Scott leads the team with 10 assists and 14 points. His 1.27 points per game rank 21st nationally and his 0.91 assists per game rank 13th.
- Brown's power play has six goals in 40 attempts (15%) to rank seventh in the conference. Alex Pineau and St. Louis lead the Bears with two power play goals apiece.
- Between the pipes, Lawton Zacher leads Brown goaltenders with a .916 save percentage and 56 goals against average in seven games. Tyler Shea holds a .893 save percentage and 3.60 goals against average in six games.
- Brown's penalty kill clicks at 81.8% (27-33) to rank sixth in the conference.
- Northeastern enters Saturday with a 4-8-1 overall record and 1-8-0 Hockey East mark.
- The Huskies are 2-1-1 over the last four games after taking a win and tie at Rensselaer (Nov. 25-26) and a weekend split with top-ranked Boston College (Dec. 1-2).
- Offensively, Northeastern is tied for 31st nationally with 2.9 goals per game. Alex Campbell and Cam Lund lead the Huskies with six goals and 13 points through 13 games.
- Northeastern's power play clicks at 23.1% (12-52) to rank 13th in the nation.
- Defensively, the Huskies allow 2.9 goals per game to rank 30th nationally.
- Between the pipes, freshman Cameron Whitehead holds a 2.83 goals against average and .899 save percentage in 12 starts.
- Northeastern's penalty kill has allowed seven goals in 34 attempts (79.6%) to rank 44th in the nation.
- Saturday marks the 77th meeting between Brown and Northeastern dating back to 1930.
- Brown owns the series advantage, 48-26-2, along with a 26-9-2 home record.
- Brown holds a 2-1-1 record through four non-conference games this season.
- Brown holds two wins over Stonehill, a tie against LIU, and a loss at Holy Cross.
- The Bears close out the non-conference slate against a trio of Hockey East foes - Northeastern (12/9), Merrimack (12/29), and Providence (12/30).
- Brown finished the 2022-23 season with a 4-3-0 non-conference record.
- Freshman goaltender Lawton Zacher recorded an assist on Mike Cataldo's goal against LIU (Dec. 1). He's the first Brown netminder since Luke Kania '22 to record a point. Kania picked up an assist on January 8, 2018 against Maine.
- Since the start of the 1987-88 season, Brown goalies have recorded 16 assists.
- Dan Rosen '10 leads Brown netminders with four assists. Chris Harvey '90 had two assists.
- Six other goalies picked up an assist: Tim Ernst '17, Tyler Steel '16, Mark Sibbald '09, Kevin Kliman '06, and Adam D'Alba '08.
- Freshman goaltender Stephen Chen is in Dumfries, United Kingdom to compete in the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship with Team China.
- Chen and the Chinese Junior Team begin the Division II A tournament on December 11 and the tournament continues through December 17.
- China will face each of the five other nations once - taking on Spain (Dec. 11), Netherlands (Dec. 12), Great Britain (Dec. 14), South Korea (Dec. 15), and Lithuania (Dec. 16).
- China earned promotion from Division II B after winning the event a year ago.
- In 2023, Chen was named Goaltender of the Tournament after posting three wins, a .959 save percentage, and a 1.33 goals against average.
