Third-Seeded Women’s Soccer Dominates in 3-0 NCAA Opening Round Victory
11/11/2023 8:14:00 PM | Women's Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head coach Kia McNeill said champions do more. Step one is complete as third-seeded Brown women's soccer (12-2-2) blanked Quinnipiac (13-4-1) 3-0 in front of over 1,000 fans on Saturday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"The team played tremendous from start to finish," said McNeill. "I'm happy for us to be one of 32 teams playing. We were able to get a shutout against a good team in Quinnipiac and tonight showed how strong our team is."
It was a complete game for the Bears as the defense allowed just one shot on goal and Brown secured goals from Ava Seelenfreund, Layla Shell and Brittany Raphino.
Seelenfreund was aggressive offensively all evening with four shots on target, including her second goal of the season. Shell added her third goal of the year in the 30th minute – her first goal since her Brown debut on the 2023 opening day – to make it 2-0 Bears at the break.
Raphino put the closing touches with her 13th goal with 35 seconds remaining to bring the raucous crowd to its feet.
Clare Gagne is now 10-2-2 on the year and earned her seventh blank sheet of the season.
