Women’s Soccer Hosts No. 13 UCF Sunday for Orientation Game, White Out

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer hosts No. 13 UCF on Sunday, Sept. 6 at noon (ESPN+) at Stevenson-Pincince Field for the program's Orientation Game and White Out with the Bears coming off a 4-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts.
Scouting the Bears (3-2-0)
- Sunday's Orientation Game and White Out festivities will include lawn games, food trucks, giveaways, and a postgame meet and greet for youth players.
- Returning to Stevenson-Pincince Field, junior Ayla Sahin scored a pair of goals, and senior Joy Okonye and junior Kyra Treanor each found the back of the net once as Brown beat Massachusetts, 4-1, on Sept. 3 to improve to 3-0-0 at home in 2026.
- Brown has posted a 3-0-0 record at home thus far in 2026, earning wins over New Haven (4-0), UConn (1-0), and UMass (4-1). The Bears have outscored their opponents 9-1 in home matches.
- As a team in the Ivy rankings, Brown stands second in goals (nine), goals per game (1.80), shots (84), shots per game (16.8), corner kicks (46), and corner kicks per game (9.20).
- Senior Angelina Vargas has tallied four points, two goals, and two game-winning goals on the season, depositing two of the Bears' three game-winners on the year. She ranks first in the Ivy League and ninth in the NCAA in game-winning goals (two). Vargas netted the game-winner against both New Haven (Aug. 20) and UConn (Aug. 27).
- Senior Joy Okonye, a member of the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, has posted four points on the year behind one goal and two assists. A two-time First Team All-Ivy selection and the 2025 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, Okonye has totaled 35 career points behind nine goals and 17 assists over 56 career games played and 53 starts. Her 17 career assists rank in a tie for seventh in program history while her 35 career points sit just outside the program's top 20.
- Junior defender Kyra Treanor leads Brown with five points on the season behind two goals and one assist, while ranking second on the team in minutes played (434). She scored one goal piece in games against New Haven (Aug. 20) and UMass (Sept. 3).
- Junior Ayla Sahin has tallied four points on the season behind two goals. She netted her first career brace against UMass (Sept. 3).
- Junior defender Brooke Birtwistle has played all 450 minutes on the season, helping the Bears post a pair of shutouts as a team on the year.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Addison Etter has played in four games with one start, making her first start of the year against UMass (Sept. 3).
- In its second home match of 2026, Brown captured a 1-0 win over UConn on Aug. 27 as Angelina Vargas scored her second game-winning goal in as many home matches, and the Bears notched their second clean sheet as a team on the season.
- In Brown's season and home opener, senior Angelina Vargas, junior Kyra Treanor, and first-years Taylor Green and Georgia Steinbach each scored a goal as the Bears earned a 4-0 victory over the University of New Haven on Aug. 20 at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
- Brown (98 points, two first-place votes) took the No. 3 spot in the 2026 Ivy League Women's Soccer Preseason Poll behind first-place Princeton (120 points, 10 first-place votes) and second-place Dartmouth (109 points, four first-place votes).
- Now in her 11th season at Brown, Kia McNeill, the Messing Family Head Coach for Brown Varsity Women's Soccer, has posted a 98-36-23 overall record alongside a 42-12-8 Ivy League mark.
Scouting the No. 13 Knights (4-0-0)
- UCF has posted an undefeated 4-0-0 record to open the year with wins over Florida (4-3), LSU (2-1), South Florida (2-0), and UAB (3-1).
- Naomi Clark leads the team with 14 points behind six goals and two assists. Clark leads the nation in goals per game (1.50) and points per game (3.50).
- As a team, the Knights rank 12th in the NCAA in assists per game (3.50) and 17th in corner kicks per game (8.25).
- Ainsley Ittel (three starts, 0.67 GAA) and Kaïna Cesar (one start, 3.00 GAA) have split time at goalkeeper.
- In 2025, UCF went 12-4-5, including a 5-1-5 mark in Big 12 play, advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
History
- Brown and UCF have met once previously with the Bears falling to the Knights, 2-0, on Sept. 15, 2013 in Orlando, Florida.
