No. 3 Women’s Soccer Welcomes Quinnipiac in NCAA Tournament Opener
11/10/2023 8:03:00 AM | Women's Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 2023 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament begins at Stevenson-Pincince Field for Brown as the No. 3 Bears (11-2-2) take on Quinnipiac (13-3-1) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Earning an at-large bid and No. 3 seed on Monday, Brown hosts a playoff game for the third time in the last four seasons. In 2019, the Bears defeated Monmouth (penalty kicks), and in 2021, Brown and St. John's went into overtime to decide the contest.
Head coach Kia McNeill and the Bears are an NCAA Tournament program for the fourth consecutive season (Brown's 10th overall).
Brittany Raphino – the Ivy League's first-ever three-time Offensive Player of the Year – registered her 12th goal of the season in the Ivy Tournament contest last week, setting a new career-high for the senior. Raphino enters the weekend with 101 career points and is only the second player in Brown women's soccer history to surpass the century mark in points. Her 41 goals also rank second, and her 19 assists are good for sixth, while Ava Seelenfreund ranks in the top 10 with 24 career goals.
Raphino's 2.00 points per game rank fifth in the NCAA. Clare Gagne's 0.66 career goals against average mark is tops in the program's rich history, and she is one win away from moving into a tie for ninth place with 15 career victories.
Brown's defense has been spectacular all season as the Bears allowed just 11 goals.
ABOUT QUINNIPIAC
After winning the MAAC Tournament to earn the automatic berth, the Bobcats will be making their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Quinnipiac lost to Penn State in the opener.
Courtney Chochol leads QC with 25 points (eight goals, nine assists).
