PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey dominated from start-to-finish in a 7-1 victory over Dartmouth in the ECAC home opener Friday night.
The Bears (2-3-0, 1-2-0 ECAC), who scored four times in the first period, finished with 27 shots on goal compared to 15 for the Big Green (2-2-1, 1-2-1 ECAC).
Senior Cassidy Piersiak netted the first two goals of her career, while sophomore India McDadi also had two goals. Sophomore Jade Iginla scored as well, and freshmen Margot Norehad and Sam Broz each put home their first-career goals.
Senior goaltender Kaley Doyle finished with 14 saves on the night to earn the win.
"Overall top-to-bottom it was a solid game," said Head Coach Melanie Ruzzi. "We talked to the team about getting off to a fast start, scoring first and whenever you get a chance to add another and build a lead, so to come out of the first period with a 4-0 lead is huge. I felt like everyone played well and we were dialed in for 60 minutes. We had three first-career goals today. Margot kicked it off, Sam Broz had a nice feed on the power play and then Cassidy Piersiak getting two was special for a senior defenseman and I think it's going to keep coming for her."
It didn't take long for the Bears to strike. Iginla sent home her second of the season from freshmen Miranda Calderone and Norehad at the 7:32 mark of the first. Just over a minute later it was McDadi with a steal and score for a 2-0 lead.
Piersiak sent home the first goal of her career with 12:08 on the clock with an assist from senior Meadow Carman and junior Jess Chiarrocchi. Norehad later found the back of the net from classmate Elodie Roy and Iginla for the 4-0 lead after one.
McDadi and senior Anna Gallagher then took a two-on-one up the ice and McDadi finished it off with help from Broz at 16:18 in the second to make it 5-0. After Dartmouth's first goal of the game, Piersiak sent home a quick rebound with a helper from freshman Ava DeCoste and Carman to make it 6-1 after the second.
Freshman Sam Broz pocketed the final goal of the night with assists from McDadi and Norehad for the 7-1 final.
Brown is back home to host Harvard on Saturday at 5 p.m.
